How to lock the backlight setting?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a Verizon xv6700. Once a while the backlight goes to the dimmest setting by itself for no reason and I have to squint in the dark to set it back to bright.

Is there a way to lock the setting? Even a cold reset doesn't reset the setting.

I have the same issue. It just goes way down and have to plug it in to get it bright to see it so I can reset the setting. Only happens on battery for me but my battery is always full charge so it's not the phone trying to save bat life.

This phone has other issues. I wish I would have taken it back.

Slugish performance
Easy to crack screen
Active sync only works when it wants to
Hangs for seconds sometimes when I hit the start menu
Backlight dim issue

I bought xscaler but didn't help much on the performance because xscaler sometimes just doesn't auto scale and soemtimes xscaler jsut goes away. It's the latest version.

Very buggy overall. Must be verison implementation since I have a friend with the sprint verizon and he has none of these issues.

Hole the power button for 5 second it will toggle the back light.. this often happens in peoples pockets and is why it is at the lowest setting some times.

Mine is in an aluminum case with belt clip and not in pocket and it still does it.

This is not a new issue, I have been trying to find a solution since March, 06 and I can guarantee that it is NOT because I held the power button to long.

As you can see I have the PPC/Alltel version and it happens mostly when I switch batteries, but does sometimes it occurs after a re-boot even if I don't switch batteries. I have even had it occur when I have let the back light 'time out'. There doesn't seem to be any commonality when this occurs. I use SPB Pocket Plus to ensure that ALL apps have been closed before i re-boot so there isn't anything other than OS functions operating when the re-boot occurs. This implies that either something in the OS or SU sequence is causing the back light to be 'turned off'.

My solution was to put a shortcut on the Today screen for the back light but I'm using Spb Pocket Plus so it was easy. I couldn't begin to tell you how to do that without Pocket Plus.

Hopefully someone will finally find the cause and fix for this problem.

I too am having the issue where the damn backlight will not turn back on!! It usually happens when I plug it in/take it off the dock. I have the Pocket+ backlight plugin on today and I squint to see it to get it to go back on as holding the button does jack (sometimes standby and back on will turn it back on but not always)! I also notice that the phone sometimes resets my backlight settings and I have to go back in and reset them, it is damn annoying.

Someone HAS to have some kind of solution for this????

Hold power button down for 5 secs as said in above post. This must be done with the phone on. I had the same issue and almost returned phone but once i figured it out it is simple. So if the phone is off push once quickly to turn on then when u see the dim screen push again and hold til backlite comes on...

As I said in above post, HOLDING THE BUTTON DOES JACK! It will NOT turn the backlight on when this happens. I don't know why but the phone is not in standby, I can see the crap on the screen dim, I hold down the power button and nothing. I can hold the button down for 5, 10, 15, 20 secs, it doesn't do anything. Sometimes standby and then back on and THEN hold the button will get it to go back on but not always. If I use the phone and manually (or through pocket controller) turn the backlight back on then it will go back on. As I said, this doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes, usually having somethign to do with the phone going into standby or being put on/removed from external power or syncing.

I'm now having the same issue on my T-Mobile MDA... holding the power button does nothing... anyone find a fix yet???

i agree it takes the power button to fix.
yes, you can see the screen dimly - only cause the backlight is off. i used to have to pull over in the car and go to settings/screen to toggle backlight back on.
but now, if it happens, and i can see the screen, just holding the power button for a while will either power it off or bring the screen back on.

ALSO,
inserting or ejecting the SD card will bring the screen back

Glad I'm not the only one that sees this happen from time to time. I've had mine only 4 days and it's happened twice. Grrrrr!

Thanks for the tips though!

Here i thought I was the only one!! What I do is press the Power button for 5 sec. That works about half the time. I then press the green Phone button a few times. I then try the windows button. by then it most times comes up. Poping the SD card work most of the time but I am alway scared of damaging the card's memory so I try the the other things first.

What I did find was a setting to light the screen when the screen is touched. I thought if I had a hard case I would try that, but I don't so ... I didn't

Let there be light!

sliding the screen up to expose the keyboard then back down works for me. or just hitting the power button.
