Stores are starting to recieve their inventory nationally. The wheels are offically in motion on this one. You will see broader availability by the end of the week.

Posted by: toanv

Does anyone know if CompUSA has them in yet? Is there any other improvement over the v3 beside itune? Is there an easy way to transfer phonebook entries from my wife's Moto V551 to the v3i? And lastly, I hope I can edit gain table using p2ktool to increase volumes as I could with the v3.

It's on the Premier site now. I would call the phone a rip-off given its features, but to each their own.

I was just about to post that it's on my Premier site.
It's price is $200 with a new line. For some reason I can't check the price for upgrade. Was your price with a new line or upgrade?

Posted by: composmentis

My price was for a new line. Cingular often varies the price by region and it depends on your company contract. I'm in northern CA and my discount is 40% off phones. When they first released the CU500 they charged me $150 for it. I just called them back when it dropped to $130 a couple days later and they promptly refunded the difference.

Posted by: bodeh6

I have it on the premier site for $199.99.

Even at $200 you're paying $50 more than a CU500 without 3G. I've never owned a Razr to compare the two phones, but the choice seems obvious to me.

Posted by: CaptShadow

I noticed on Premier that this phone only has a web discount and not a company discount. Many of the phones have both, but not this one. One other thing, Premier (on my end) is offering an extra $25 off at checkout for online purchases. I guess this means the V3i can be had for $175.
I'll be curious to see how this deal compares to cingular.com when they list it.

Actual The LG CU500 is $120 less for me. But there are loyal Moto followers who have been waiting for this phone forever.

But seriosly this should have come out at least $50-$100 cheaper then it did now. Featurewise it is no better and worse then the LG CU500 and Samsung ZX-20 which are $79.99 and $99.99, respectively.

People will just buy this phone because it is a RAZR and also has iTunes.

Posted by: VTECaddict

they should just drop the original razr and sell the v3i at that price. the V3's spec list is starting to get matched by entry level phones, and the V3i is more midrange than anything. phones at this price should all be HSDPA with 2+ megapixel cams etc.

Posted by: composmentis

I think Cingular shot themselves in the foot by keeping such a large inventory of V3's and now they can't cannibalize the V3's and lower them to $50 because people will still pay $100 for a Razr (I don't know why).

You're right, the CU500 is $79 after rebate. This is an absolute steal if you look anywhere in the cellular market for a comparable phone deal. If this phone was out prior to the CU500 at the $100 price point I probably would have jumped on it. Sure, I would have kicked myself in July when the CU500 came out, but they would have had me. I don't think I'm alone in that regard.

Posted by: Joe Kewl

It's too bad they didn't upgrade the screen to QVGA, and the data rate to EDGE speeds... I might have considered getting this phone then...

Posted by: Seltzer

So, what's so special about this EDGE-less wonder?

Posted by: ScruffyGuy

I do have to agree that its a shame that the V3i doesn't have at least edge capabilities. Its a great phone but lacking some qualities of newer phones (like edge, 3G, better camera (yes, its a megapixl, but that doesn't meant the photo quality is any better than the older V3. Only the picture size got better).

Posted by: jst51

V3i is on my Premier website at $239.99

Posted by: thisisnotadrill

I suspect that the v3i is not supposed to be for the average hofo user.

on the other hand, I dont use the internet on my phone. at all. i tried to find a reason to use it when i switched over to cingular. i had the media basic package for a while but all i was doing was wasting my money.

i dont use the camera either except on rare occasions, so that doesnt bother me.

what i do like is the form factor (and the .15" in thickness makes a difference to me when its going to be in my jeans pocket more than the difference in other dimensions) and the better reception of the v3i, at least from what i can tell on these forums.

so given that they are about the same price for me (i have a rain check from compusa for the v3i and the cu500 would be ~99$ to upgrade to on premiere) i am going to choose the v3i.

just goes to show that with 50 million users on cingular there are going to be people whose phone buying criteria will make every phone near perfect.

Posted by: 5.9LITRE

so i found it for $239 on premier website but will this price go down or will my 40%-50% equipment discount be able to be applied in the future? just wondering why i get a handset discount yet it seems like none of the phones actually HAVE that discount anymore...

Posted by: jst51

V3i on Cingular regular web page in my area is $249.00. After $50.00 mail in rebate.

You'll notice that the $240 price tag is exactly 40% below the MSRP. I think they're just labeling it a web discount rather than company discount. I have seen phones with both discounts before, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the price is exactly 40% (my company discount) below $400.

funny regular razr still is $100. the v3i dosnt come with anything except charger and battery, manual

Posted by: toanv

Just curious if I could get the v3i for $99 upgrade price from CompUSA when it is available and apply the $50 mail-in rebate from Cingular website which makes it $49?

Posted by: andyman1947

i noticed on the Cingular website, the only supplied accessories are battery, charger, manual. looking at unlocked v3i's at various other sites, the Itunes cd and cable are included.

what gives?

I have the regular RAZR for $49.99. Zip is 48178, 48202, 48336, etc.

Another way Cingular is screwing you on this overpriced, outdated phone.

Posted by: Michael95GT

It's a misprint; it comes with the CD, cable, 512mb microSD, and headset. The picture also shows a "non-iTunes" V3i, notice the "Message" key instead of the "iTunes" key above the "End" button.

While I agree it's the wrong phone picture, what is a person to think?

I looked up the V3i for Hollywood, zip 90210, and found $299-50 mail-in, and no accessories.
If this is the best they can do, that's pretty pathetic.
Maybe I'll wander into the local company store and see for myself.

Also, I see the minimum new account they'll give you is $39.95/mo.
I'm on a $29.95 nation-wide roaming and long distance plan: 250+5000 from a couple of years ago.
Technically, I don't even qualify for the above price.
And that $99 upgrade at CompUSA is out of my reach for the same reason, too.
I'm guessing after the initial roll-out, the common price (maybe the common on-sale price) will wind up around $99.
And that would be appropriate.

Annoying to see how they've given us less and jacked up the price.
No more free first incoming minute. No more free texting.
Don't get me wrong - I'm staying with the bastards, but I still reserve the right to grumble.

Posted by: JustinGoodie

I simply cannot believe that they expect people to pony up $250 for this phone... i sure as hell wouldn't...

that being said... CompUSA's "sale" price is what the regular price should be...

Posted by: Grometnj

Just got back from my cingular store.

got my V3i

i comes with the CD, Charge Cable, USB Cable, Headphones, Regular Headphone Adaptor, and 512Micro SD card already installed.

It does have the iTunes button instead of the messaging button.

You sure about that? Not showing for me w/those zips. Neither under 50% Premier nor regular cingular site.

Posted by: bodeh6

Well they are for my Premier site. Each site has a different discount and that is what I get them for.

I would assume that the 100 song limit is still in place?

Well, now that you have a real one, do one quick test.
How is the receive audio? (direct, not on an earphone/headset)

Can you hear people if you are in a somewhat noisy environment?
The regular old V3 really sux for that.

I was lunching with a buddy who took the company V3 with him for a business call last month, and he could barely hear what was being said.
On his Treo or my Samsung there's never a problem.

I know this has been a sore point and seam-edit fix for the V3's.
Has Cingular addressed the problem in their V3i ?

Hey NEWBS

Why is it so hard to believe. I will post screen shots if need be when I get home from School. All the V3 (silver, black, blue, don't remember pink) are $49.99 on my premier and the V3i which retails for $399.99 on my site is 50% off at $199.99.

meh. maybe my discount used to be 40 or 50% off the price and they quietly changed it to 40 or 50% off msrp. i used to be able to go to cingular.com and see a phone for $200 and then login to premier and it costs $100. now cingular.com shows $200 and premier shows $190 b/c the msrp is inflated i guess.

i coulda sworn it was always a discount off the retail price. so since getting it through CompUSA is $239 cheaper, can i get it from them but still migrate over to Cingular and get the company/Premier discounts? I don't trust the CompUSA monkeys to migrate and activate service correctly...

Since I know nothing about the evolution of phones and prices....

Is there an average time for a phone to be out before its price drops down? I guess the V3i might be a special (read: retarded) case, but I'm not about to pay $250 for one. I'm in no hurry, but I want to spend less than $100 (with new plan or extension)...so I'm even considering just getting a regular razr if they go down in price as well.

yea the reg razr should be dropping down soon b/c of arrival of v3i so thats ur best bet but for the v3i to drop to under 100 thats gonna take years. (two yrs later the v3 is still $99)

Posted by: Anole

Not to be disagreable, but while $99 might be the official V3 price right now, a quick search of Amazon for "Motorola RAZR", and the first two hits are:
a) Free and a $20 rebate on Cingular (you make $20)
b) Free and a $70 rebate on T-mobile (you make $70)

If you remember back to January of this year, Radio Shack took on Cingular to replace Verizon.
For a few weeks (was it all month?) they offered V3's for $20 including a bluetooth headset.

I do wonder how long before the independent dealers have enough margin to discount the V3i's.
Mine always includes case, headset, and car cord, and generally beats the company stores on price as well.
But what's his incentive for the first few months after introduction of a new product?
I know he's ordered a large number, but if they fly off his shelf, he's not going to have to give 'em away.

Those are for new customers and also on Amazon.com + Cingular you cannot transfer your number.

while i do agree with you, in all fairness those auctions were either for used phones, or missing accy's or even itunes. granted, if you don't care about itunes, that is definately the way to go.

The average consumer won't research when getting their new phone. They'll walk into a Cingular store, see the brand new RAZR, say hey no one has that yet let me drop 250 and get a deal since it says here the phone cost 400 dollars, and walk out the store.

Posted by: Rcadden

I know. I've said it publicly, and will say it again: Cingular and Motorola are proof of the stupidity of the Average American.

Lol. Welcome to "FAN" discounting practices. There was a huge thread on it a while back. Basically, the "Company Discount" and "Web Discount" vary so that everyone sees the same price.

Has anyone tried getting their v3i unlocked unbranded hooked up to flash with a Cingular MP? I have RSD lite 2.4 installed, USB drivers 2.9 and Moto PHone tools 4.40 or something. My MPT finds the phone, but when i try to open up rsd, it says v3i detected and wants a driver, i've searched in all the folders, can't find one... any suggestions?

The Cingular Monsterpack is unlocked. So if you got an unlocked phone then it WILL stay unlocked.

I'm running my own custom version that I have debranded. No sign of Cingular except for the Shop Games, Tones, Graphics links in they're respective folders. So far the Cingular Monsterpack seems to be running fine. All my seem edits, mods, skins, custom ALL ICON mma_ucp file, funlight.pat, cl.gif, ringtones, and loaded iTunes songs took without any problems at all. All the Cingular WAP, WEB, MMS stuff works as it should. All the add ons like Mobile Email and the IM features AIM, Yahoo Messanger, and ICQ look to be correct. Also maybe it is just me but the menu speed seems faster then my regular V3i? Intresting to say the least.

Posted by: ccrows

OK looking for some iTunes advice (Looking @ DJdownhill's profile I think I know where this could be going )

I'm going to buy a V3i probably from ebay. (My friend left Cingy so swapping my 6682 is a no-go)

Anywhoo, I'm trying to decide on whether or not to get an iTunes version or not?

I don't plan on DL'ing any songs with iTunes. (just add them from my own computer).

So is there any other reason why iTunes is so popular. Meaning is iTunes a better MP3 player than the default non-iTunes Moto version (As like in sound quality and/or other features)?

Also is one phone version more stable/reliable than the other firmware wise?

TIA!!!

TIA!!!

No comment in iTunes.

Both of them IMHO are about the same. Just one has iTunes and the other does not. Again IMO that is the only thing that seperates them as everything else can be modded the same way from my experiance with both.

Cool thanks!

That was my primary concern is if one phone was more easy for moddify and/or reliable than the other (especially since the i-Tunes version probably has newer firmware). I'm leaning towards the non-iTunes phone, but I figured I check here first.

Thanks Again!!!

Thanks Again!!!

MotoX has alot of SW for the Non-iTunes V3i. The one that is on the #1 phone on my phone list above in one of them. I like this one alot and has not given me any problems.

I'm not sure if this was asked already but does the non itunes equivalent have the same 100 song limit?

Posted by: Maverick05

I flashed my unlocked unbranded v3i with the cingular MP. I can confirm that the phone is still unlocked. (i tryed a t mobile sim) The itunes limit is still at 50. The menu speeds do seem to be faster. I find a lot of minor glitches to have been fixed. Call quality is better too.

Today has been a crazy long ordeal getting the cingy MP on my v3i... i gotta give props to DJ. This guy's the man, he helped every step of the way... this forum wouldn't be so great without so many knowledgable people willing to help out! Cheers to howard forums!

I just realised, the cingular v3i software is lacking the "voice records" feature. Weird... this was included in the standard razr, and my unbranded v3i had it... doesn't seem like the kind of feature a carrier would disable... maybe i'm just not seeing it in the menu...

Look in Tools> Voice Records If not then do this seem edit:

0032_0001

offset 08 bit 2: Office Tools > Voice Records (1 on, or check the box)

It will be there after the seem edit as I had to do the seem edit and I can confirm it works.

Does any one know if we buy a v3i through the internet(not cingular) can we add the IMEI to our cingular account?

Posted by: Maverick05

i don't know... but why would you want to add the imei number to cingular? All you need to do is pop in the sim chip and it will work... as for being able to download cingular software, you don't need them to have your imei number as much as you need to install all the proper certificates.

I stand by my original post:

Cingular is going to make Millions regardless of what anyone here has to say PERIOD.

One of my coworkers said we had them available for sale today. I didn't work so I can't guarantee that statement.

Posted by: djdownhill

Seem 0032_0001 offset 8C - bit 2: Allow Use of Pictures on TF Card for Phonebook (1 on, 0 off)

0032_0001 offset b2 - bit 7: Set Ringtones from TF memory card (1 on, 0 off)

Also when you use a song from your TF as a ringtone it plays the whole song not just a few seconds of it.

Hmm... V3i is $249 after MIR on the cingular website
the 8125 is $249 after MIR....
Hmm I think the choice is clear, for the same $$ you get way more with the 8125 not to mention it already has a built in mp3 plaer. Cingular is killing them selves with this pricing . I can't believe people are still paying $99 for the razr.
This razr hyper is way out of hand

RAZR V3I GRAY (A) W/ MC

can some one tell me what the stupid (A) means ?

and also does the itunes stores 50 or 100...because i know the slvr stores 100 if u get it at the cingular store

and for the ones that do not have the itunes software on the phone what kind of mp3 player is install on the v3i unlocked?

ps v3i regular price is expensive and a ripoff *cough* $450

The reason is just in case I want to do a warranty swap on my V3i, I wont have to go through Motorola, I can go through Cingular, makes life easier.

Interesting thing i saw in the CINGULAR usuer manual... p44 icon number 9. It's a satellite picture that's further explained on page 46. It says it comes on when location services are available. The icon looks like a satellite. The weird thing is i'm pretty sure this doesn't have such a feature, but then why wouldn't they ommit it from the CINGULAR user manual? Is it possible a software upgrade is going to allow us to use LBS base on triangulation or somethin?

Well I did it... I finally got a V3i off of ebay for under $200 including shipping. (Non-iTunes version) So it should receive it within the next few days.

Anywhoo I have a million questions to ask, because I am a moto noob (coming from my 6682) but one I need to know is....

If I put this "Unlocked Phone" on the Cingular network by running "Cingular MP", does that mean that the phone is not "unlocked" anymore?

Also can I go back (To the original "Unlocked" Settings) if I change my mind if I wanted to sell this down the road?

Sorry for that being a total noob question...

TIA!!!

Anyway I'm looking forward to being part of the V3i family now.

You purchased an Unlocked Non-Itunes phone. The Cingular Monsterpack is for THE iTunes phone and will not work on the Non-iTunes phone.

OK simple enough...

I will be visiting MotoX, for software & other info. (I remember you saying that MotoX is a good site for software with Non-Itunes phones)

Are there any other sites that you would recommend?

TIA!!!

There is only ONE site for all your V3i needs. MotoX. Nothing else even comes close.

For my Non-iTunes V3i I used the second Monsterpack here:

http://www.planetmotox.net/razr_v3i.php

Reflashed with this file here:

http://www.motox.info/showpost.php?...23&postcount=95

Setup the WAP and stuff from here:

http://www.motox.info/showpost.php?p=51630&postcount=3

Done.

I was under the impression that the mp3s stored on your flash card could be used as ringtones. I go to sounds->change the storage device to TF and theres nothing there ecept "shop for tones" Any help?

There is a seem edit to fix that.

Look here

There's a seem edit to get voice record back.

Posted by: OYSTER RSX

and what about the play in the flip when closed?

Posted by: johndeere769

As long as its a cingular v3i they all come with the wall charger, 512mb card, the data cable, a set of mini usb head phones with a mic , the itunes cd, and a usb to 3.5 headphone jack. You will have to buy your own car charger and motorola phone tools cd.

guys Im thinking of picking up this phone for my parents. Is there any diffence between the v3i and the v3 in terms of sound quality, reception, buzzing etc...? They will jut use BT and make calls.

I have some problems on my v3 with buzzing and I hear it through the earpiece while im on a call even once the lcd turns off. But mine is really old though. Any1 know if it is safe to get a v3 (which can be had for free from indirect dealers) or the v3i? I need 2 of them.

Posted by: pcmagsascha

Something about this phone just got on my nerves. Cingular should be ashamed to be foisting this on us in late 2006 at this premium price.

My V3i review

Posted by: Anole

Well, that was anything but an unbiased load of crap!
Seems most of the reviewers complaints have to do with the phone's price.
Actual street price has been $75 and then $125, for an upgrade.
Less for a new account.
I got my upgrade at the later price.

Can anyone tell me the proper network settings for Cingular's WAP and MMS services? I just bought an unlocked V3i from Ebay from llcellular (awesome shipping, came with everything) and when I tried to install the settings from the Cingular website, I don't think it set up the proper WAP settings by default and when trying to install my MMS settings, I don't think that worked either as it popped up on my phone saying something along the lines that the settings had reached their limit.

My available MMS Servers are currently:
Celcom MMS
DiGi MMS
Maxis MMS (which is checked)
Are any of these the ones for Cingular and if not, does it matter which I delete to make room?

My available Web Sessions are:
Celcom 3G MMS
Celcom 3G WAP
Celcom GPRS
Celcom MMS
DiGi MMS
DiGi WAP
Express (which I'm guessing is Cingular's)
Maxis 3g
Maxis GPRS (which is checked)
Maxis MMS

Thanks to anyone who can help!
