Can you use a regular dial up account without T-Zones?

I was wondering if there is any way to set up internet access without having a T-Zone (GPRS?) account. I set up my earthlink dial up account under Control Panel -> Internet accounts. I set it up as a dial up. Under advanced I set the connection type to Analogue, enabled high speed, and set the requested speed to 28.8 kbps. I was setting this up thinking the phone would act like a modem? I just installed the opera browser and I wanted to connect to the internet to try it out.

Just a hunch, maybe try the "Email configurator" located at...

http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp...D_VPF&noredir=1

Earthlink's not listed so maybe try RCN-LA or something. Once the settings are loaded on your phone, modify them to suit Earthlink appropriately.

As far as speed I think it goes like this...

CSD: 9.6kbps Tx and Rx
CSD: 14.4kbps Tx and Rx (on few GSM networks)
HSCSD: 14.4kbps Tx and 28.8kbps Rx

I don't think either AT&T or T-Mobile do HSCSD, so maybe try knocking down the speed to 9.6kbps.

There's a lot of valuable info in the P800 White Paper (Jan 2003); just sign up as a developer at the Ericsson web site (it's free).

I changed the dial up account to ISDN 9.6kbps and I opened up my Opera browser and opened up www.yahoo.com. It actually works, but 9.6 is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo SLOW. Thanks for the link to the configurator though, because I used it to set up my t-mobile wap and mms in case I want to try the t-zones.
