Can you identify this Japanese phone?

I just won this on ebay and the owner doesn't even know what phone it is. It looks like a Japanese clone of the Nokia 7380.

i dont know man, but it doesnt look like a performant fone.
i hope he didnt fooled you

I'm pretty sure this phone is made by CECT.... I can't remember the model number. Yes, it's a Chinese company,

http://www.cectelecom.com/ is their website.

and ya, CECTs are far from performance phones, they are merely basic phones, that are either lookers or just in a shiny case.

Checked their website, couldn't find the phone...

That or they rebrand phones- Treo 650s are sold in China with their branding instead of Palm's (from what I see when I go shopping here in Shanghai).

Surely you can't think such a phone is actually worth the money? Besides...... once it leaves China you'll most likely be ripped off for it anyways, by the dealer/seller I mean.

yangj08, do you see a lot of CECT phones up in Shanghai? Down here in HK, only mainstream brands are sold through carriers like Peoples, Smartone, 3, etc..... but CECT phones can be found in small phone shops who just sell phones and accessories only.

Yea... it looks a lot like a Nokia 7380 knockoff...

Yes, pretty much every store has them, and they can be had for free with a service contract in some cases- CECT phones are cheap, some video arcades offer them as prizes (you know, win tickets at games, and trade them in for stuff). I can't say great things about their quality (they usually look like ripoffs of better phones) unless you're talking about the Treo 650 but they're great for a spare phone if you live in an area covered by 900/1800MHz because they actually have a decent feature set. I'm sure, though, that the phone in this post is not a CECT- looks like something that I would see in the cell phone markets in the train station (the cell phone markets there are full of rip-off phones- I once saw a lime-green SLVR ripoff there and I was so tempted to buy it). These cell phone markets are great for buying Japanese phones, though- I can find a Sharp 902 for about $250 there and the DoCoMo N901iS for $25 (the salesman said to me that it was 200RMB because it couldn't make phone calls because China doesn't have 3G yet). I also found the SIMPURE N (still locked) for 250RMB, and an AU Global Passport phone for 80RMB (this phone gets signal, but it would only connect to emergency numbers- I tried, and panicked when a call to an emergency number went through).

I'd be interested in buying a SIMPURE N in Hong Kong perhaps...... but only if I saw it up front etc. 250 RMB is a VERY cheap price........

and LOL @ the emergency call..... was it a Japanese or Chinese operator on the other end just curious?

Posted by: yangj08

It was Chinese- if it was Japanese they wouldn't get to China in time if it was an emergency. Oh, and the SIMPURE N is only 250RMB because it's the phone only- nothing else. That's also why the AU phone is so cheap. I'll be buying a N901iS like that- so that I can have a spare MP3 player/camera when I'd rather not bring my 904T (for example, I just need an mp3 player at school for the hour-long bus ride, not necessarily a phone).

no FOMA sim card goes with the SIMPURE N then.... that's a real bummer.

Posted by: yangj08

Well- it works fine without a FOMA card, actually- when I powered it on, it said "please insert a FOMA card". I clicked the center button and it powered on to the main screen. Now, maybe something has been done to this one, so you should try the phone yourself if you decide to buy in Hong Kong. The one I saw was white and in perfect condition- no scratches, etc. Just no charger or other accessories.

your right guy above me

Posted by: yangj08

Oh- so that is the way it normally works then- that it will work without a card?

I checked the web site and I was not able to find the picture of the phone you are referring to.

Looks cool but it also look like you have to put it together before you can use it.

But it does like like a cheap chinese cell phone.

I rather get the real thing in U.S. though.
