Amr-hr?

Could someone explain what editing the SEEMs for AMR-HR does for you?

The best explanation can be found by searching for AMR HALF RATE - you'll end up with more threads that you probably care to read

Once you understand the what it is (it's a codec) and why folks think it sucks, you'll understand why folks like to disable it and only enable full rate...

Thanks, I will check that out.

Also check out http://xlr8.us/hofo/map.txt for the seem edit.

That too, although I figured she already knew about that cuz she asked what editing those seems would do for her. The map shows that the seems are there but xlr8 doesn't go into detail about all the codecs...

half-rate uses half the available channels, which can lead to garbled and dropped calls. In areas where reception is low this especially matters, because a half-rate call with 1 bar will sound horrible. However once full rate is enabled your using all the channels, with full quality, and u can get a perfect call on one bar. Service providors avoid enabling full rate by default because it fills the towers faster, theyd rather have more calls with less quality. However being modders we can get around this

Thank you for the explanation. Is there any downside to enabling full rate?

I am glad that I am not the only one who was wondering about this. I have seen a few people mention that they disabled it, but before I do, I want to know what it does.

Its supposed to drain the battery a little faster.

Posted by: hytran

Disabling half rate has been discussed ad nauseum in the Cingular forum. For those that would like something more Cingular-centric...

Ok... Ive been reading around in this section for like 2 hrs and cant find a single how-to on enabling full rate only. No one shows how to actually do the edit on p2ktools or p2kman. Can someone please make a how to for dummies guide on this?? I'm not an idiot, but I have never done hex editing before. A guide with screen shots of what values should be changed would be much appreciated. And before anyone flames me, no I'm not a noob, I just never registered here before, I've been dealing with cell phones for years but never work on Motorolas, and never found a reason to post or ask questions, so I never registered. Also, I DID search first, but if there is a tutorial, someone search and see if THEY can find it.

P.S. - I'm not trying to be an ***, I'm just aggravated from dealing with phones all day on my day off (I work for Cingular). If anyone needs some help in the southeast FL region, let me know by PM or Email and I'll see if I can help, my specialty is reducing costs on PDA plans. If your not in southeast FL don't ask, I don't have access.

I never bothered with this mod, because I was afraid of sacrificing battery...Is there a substantial drain or is it subtle? I'm not feeling very adventurous with modding much anymore after my failed edge flash on my v3i...

Posted by: blazie151

Drain cant be nearly as bad as the call quality is. I'm really tired of it. I use a blackjack thats locked to 3g only, and its amazing, I wanna do this mod for my girl's phone. Can someone please give me a better idea on how to do this please. I just need a screenshot of what to change.

Posted by: cKyMeebs

looking at your sig, do you work for cingular to get those plans?!???!?!

Posted by: blazie151

Yeah, I work for Cingular. Those are ANRP lines. That's why in one of the posts I said that if anyone was in the southeast FL area I could hook them up on their plan a little. I can't do what I have, since Cingular stripped CARE from employees, but I can set people up with PDA plans cheaper than the 39.99 or 59.99 (if you tether) plans that Cingular offers it's customers. I'm still trying to figure out this seem edit though. I've never done any hex editing before and I want a screen shot or an explanation of exactly what to change. I downloaded P2KTools and I just don't know exactly what to do. I can obviously get the phone hooked up and registered properly, as well as change all the gains and setup the menus and features that I want, its just the seem edit I don't wanna touch until someone explains it better.

I also would like to see a guide for seem edit, before I mess up my phone.

the process is similar on the V3 as on the V3xx. Instead of p2k tools, I use p2k commander to download/upload seems and XVI32 to edit them

enabling full rate is only allowed on gsm networks, not cdma like verizon and spring
