Considering the 7130c (or the Cingular 2125)

I'm looking at the 7130 phone. I like the features on it (calender, tasks, alarms etc.) but don't need quite as as many features as are found on the larger more pda style phones. However, I'm also looking at the Cingular 2125 phone. What would people say are the disadvantages/advantages of each?

Where is the best place to buy? Is buying of Amazon a bad idea? What if I wanted a shared plan and wanted to buy off amazon? Is that possible?

Check out this discussion for a comparison of the TMobile MDA (which is basically the exact same device as the 2125) and the BB 8700c.

The 8700c and the 7130c are very similar in functionality. (I have had both). the only real differences between the 2 are the size (and size of the screen) and the full QWERTY v. a suretype device.

The BB will just work. It is not the fanciest device in the world, but it is rock solid and what id does, it does VERY well. There is not a ton of 3rd party software, but there is some, but very little of it is free, like you would find for a palm or PPC device. I have owned many different smart phones (kyo6035, treo 300, 600, 650, SE910a (symbian), and the PDA2K). I feel like my BB is not a compromise for how I use a smartphone.

It works very well as a phone and for all the PIM functionality. I dont need a camera or music player. The only thing I would really like to see added to my 7130c is WiFi.

Of course YMMV.

I have had several pocketpc and smartphone devices in the past, and just started this week with a 7130c. The only reason I switched to a blackberry was that I could get my enterprise account set up through work, which allowed for wireless access and synchronization of my e-mail, calendar, and to-do list. I love it so far. However, in my opinion if you are not going to use this key feature, I'd take a hard look at a pocketpc or smartphone. There's a lot more features and functionality in these devices, and the newer devices support push e-mail from a personal account. Good luck.

I agree, with the functionality of a BES server, the BB is not nearly as good as it could be. I have not used the new version of BIS for my personal email accounts but was very disappointed with how the old BIS worked for mail sync. (basically it didnt).
