Need Help with Kyocera KX160 BT

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello, I am new to Kyocera and I need help to set up "Kyocera Mobile Phone Tools 3.7.01 (Kyocera)" to use my Bluetooh Dongle and BlueSoleil 1.6.1.4 release 050606. I've tried everything I've could.
Can anyone post a step by step to connect via bluetooth... I just want to download my address book to the phone, and I can't "push" multiple vcards via bluesoleil, not even from Outlook.
Any help will be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Willy.

Hello! I managed to make it work in both programs using the serial service.

In Blue Soleil, pair the phone, refresh services, select PORT 5 (in tools-configurations-quick connect) to connect the phone to the serial service.

In Bitpim select "OTHER" phone in the brand list and in "view" select FILE SYSTEM, that will show up your phone's file system, from there you will be able to copy images, sounds, etc.

For the CONTACTS, I used windows xp's address book to create my contacts, and dragged them to the HD as vCards, then I used the "Object Push Service" to send objects to the phone and selected all the vCards and that was it.

For MPT I used the same steps as before, but connected the phone to port 12 (DUN modem), selected that in MPT, selected the phone model (KX160, not the KX160 bluetooth). So far I've been able to browse images and sounds, but the phone book makes the connection unstable and turns off the phone. Got to keep investigating this issue.

Hope this helps.

Willy.

Remember to remove the phone from all the other com ports, just leave it in com port 5.

When I load up bluesoileil,
My phone show up.

In the quick connect, there is nothing listed there and I can't assign any thing.

I think you have to pair the phone, then refresh services, then select serial service.

I right click on the phone icon orbiting the orange,
it's already paired. Only selection there is "unpair"

If I select the "Bluetooth serial service"
It will pop a notice in the lower left and say:
"No more availible COM ports, Please disconnect one or more COM ports and try again."

This is as for as I have gotten this to work.

Edit

Heres what it looks like

The link does not work.

Did you go to:

Tools-Configurations-Quick Connect?

There you can free up com ports used by your phone, and assign the port 5 you need.

If this doesn't solve it, I am out of ideas.

Well, on my computer there is nothing listed where you say to go.

However I INstalled the software on my wifesw computer and it doesn't see the dongle, installs and unknown device.

On my sons computer, it installed and I did see what you are talking about.

Its connected to the serial now, bitpim connected and I can see the filesystem, but I dont know where the pics and ringtones go.

I have to connect my phone to tell you where you can find the files. I will reply in about 20 minutes...

There's a folder called BREW-then MEDIA, then IMG and SND. There's also a folder called USER, open that too.

Great got it.

Found the issue with my wifes computer seeing the dongle as an uninstallable usb.
Device manager, Usb Root Hub(s), properties, then advanced, then uncheck the "turn off power"

I did that, plugged the dongle in, and installed like it should

Now to the root of the orginal probelm (Sorry to steal your thread)

But I just got KMPT and it's having a hard time connecting to the bluetooth.
It' tells me I need DUN for the bluetooth. But the usb Dongle wont dial up. Give me invalid user. KMPT tells me the DUN is in use.

Any ideas?

That's right.

You need to select serial services and instead of connecting the phone to com 5 you will use com 12 (DUN). After you successfully connect the phone to that port, open KMPT (make sure you update KMPT to the latest version) and select bluetooth, then it won't find the phone, it asks if you want to find the phone, say yes (follow the instructions) to the point where you select the bluetooth DUN modem. It will find the modem (phone). I did it and it worked, but something weird happened when I tried phonebook, the phone turned off, after that I couldn't connect it anymore to KMPT.

Don't worry about stealing my thread, I'm glad I can be of some help!

You know...I feel like a total idiot, but hopefully my post might help someone else.

I was able to install my bluetooth adapter and MobilePhoneTools.

The installation was able to detect my KX-160 and supposedly install it, and I was able to send individual V-Cards between the phone and the computer using the bluetooth software.

But I could NOT connect using the Mobile Phone Tools. Phone Tools saw my phone...when I tried to read the address book, it would say "Connecting to phone...reading entries....then say unable to read entries".

I fought with this sucker for over a week...uninistalled, reinstalled, chose different modems, different ports, tried the KX-160 and the 160 Bluetooth....

NOTHING I did would allow me to connect using the Mobile Phone Tools (although I was able to connect and send individual V-Cards with the bluetooth software).

After wroking on something totally unrelated, I noticed that in My Network Connections, that the bluetooth modem was protected by the Windows firewall. I turned the firewall off, and it connected.

I had access to EVERYTHING with the Mobile Phone Tools. I could syncrhonize my address books, my calendars, add wallpapers, sounds, ringers, etc.

Hopefully this will help someone else. If you are able to install mobile phone tools, but can't read or write to your phone, check your firewall connections and turn them off for the bluetooth connection and see if that helps.

Hey Tic3, thanks for the tip!

I turned off XP's firewall and Norton Antivirus (just in case), but everytime I try to read the phone contacts, the phone restarts or turns off after a while. I am not able to use MPT to update contacts, I have to do it using the bluetooth software (push object service -it would be much easier using MPT).

I can't even get MPT to connect.
Keeps poping a little notice box from the BlueSoiel software that it can't connect.

In the BlueSoiel program when I click on the DUN connection, it will pop up a dial up box. Any special number should be there? Also what about the user and pass?
