When is CU500 firmware coming?

When will a new version come out? Also, since there is a function on the phone for it, will it be over the air and just alert us one day?

Very misleading topic, I wasted a click. Next time try something like: When is CU500 firmware coming?

To answer your question, I doubt anybody knows when a new firmware is coming out or it would have been announced in these forums.

Ha! You are tiny grasshopper!

Even if a firmware comes pushed by Cingular OTA, I would be very leery of being the first guy to test the auto-upgrade process. Something tells me that the first few auto-upgrades will be auto-brickmakers instead, if you follow my drift.

I am sure this one click has ruined you day by wasting 5 seconds of your time. Why bother, all CU500 owners already are reading this so why be a smart a$*. The title actually isn't misleading, it asks "When"

The original poster changed it.

I personally can't wait for a new firmware. I'm most excited about fixing the ascending ringtone and losing the java nag. I assume from the OTA description that it will just automatically apply the new firmware without user intervention. There is a menu item that appears to be for firmware that didn't automatically apply for some reason.

Slightly off topic, but if Cingular begins FOTA, will non-Cingular phones be able to update, too. Would the 6131 be able to update from Nokia?

Posted by: Bob Bob

I thought there already was an update for the 6131

FOTA for the 6131 won't work on Cingular. It's blocked. And there isn't an update via PC yet.

You do know there's already a hack to fix the Java perms thing, right? That can be fixed now if you have QPST, a data cable for the CU500 and find the info for the hack here at hofo.

As for the ascending ringtone, there's no guarantee that would be changed. It was a choice by LG to have the phone do that. It's not a "bug", so I'd be surprised if LG or Cingular ever offered anything to "fix" it.

I have a data cable coming via eBay so I'm going to jump on that Java fix as soon as I can. As far as the ascending ringtone, it's just wishful thinking on my part.

And from all the posts I've seen with people not liking it (myself included), you're far from alone.

The ascending ringtone is undoubtedly a legal CYA thing so people who get deafened when the phone goes off while it's by their ear can't sue. LG isn't going to change that, it's like begging for someone to sue them.

no one here would be the first to test it

I agree when the phone is open, but the ringtone should be full blast when the phone is closed.

I had a SE phone with ascending ring, and it went from quiet to loud in way less time than this phone does. If LG just shortened the length of time the phone took to go from quiet to loud, that would be fine too... or at least started it out at some sort of volume other than completely quiet... Or made it an options to turn on or off... then when sued, they can say, 'hey, you turned it off, it's your ear.'

I have never seen anything about this phone being capable of FOTA on Cingular's website, nor did any reps say it was when I asked (not that that is a good indication), whereas the ZX-20 clearly states FOTA on the Cingular website.

I hope that it is, it's a great advantage to Cingular customers.

Not only would it be nice to know if/when, but what major annoying bugs/"features" will it fix? Will Cingular/LGE actually get together and do something smart and read the user requests, suggestions and complaints or will they continue to make mistakes? I love my CU500, but then again there are quite a few things I wish were not the way they are. I think I'm going to go with the 8525 and keep my CU500 just for kicks and grins until this OTA comes.
