v 980 won't register on Cingular

I received my "unlocked" v 980 from CellphoneShop and it arrived branded w/ Vodafone and set up to work in Spain. My question is: can I get it to work here in the heartland (Ohio) with Cingular? I put my Cingular sim in it but it won't connect to the network.
