V3 backlight comes on when phone not in use

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me out with this little problem. The backlight on my V3 comes on when the phone is not in use ie:just sat on the table and it is continually flattening the battery very fast (I have 3 batteries for it and a charger). I have reduced the backlight to 10 second mode to save the battery.I would welcome any ideas to cure this problem
