Weird Sound Quality SLVR

Hey when I play Mp3s on my slvrs external speaker they sound decent but when I play them through the headphones they sound really washed out why is this? And do any companies make a better quality earbud?

well that's the thing about the slvr or razr or rokr....the quality through the earphones isn't that great compared to an ipod or other mp3 media player. The mp3s heard through the external speaker sounds okay because it's a mono speaker and it doesn't really play bass all that great.
I usually cut out the bass, boost the mids and slightly boost the highs when custom making my mp3 ringtones.
