Ask some better questions

I keep seeing the same questions on this forum over and over again.

Frankly, I'm amazed that Mark_Venture has the tenacity to keep answering.. =)

I'd say the following concerns are >= 90% of the traffic on here:

0) MPT won't detect your phone for any and all of the following reasons:
a) Your version is too old, and you can't LiveUpdate because you pirated

b) The phone detection code is totally brain-dead and riddled with bugs

c) You left some P2k tool open in the background and the phone is in P2k mode

d) Your machine took too long to install the modem drivers so MPT timed out (see "b")

e) The device failed to start in Device Manager because you used a ripoff cable, have a crappy computer, and daisy-chained three hubs and a docking station together

f) You're grounded because you SEEM edited your dad's phone
1) You can't use MPT's Multimedia Studio on Verizon unless you a) SEEM edit to unlock the feature and b) change phone profiles OR YOU WON'T SEE THE ICON. SHEESH!

Further, you will likely get transfer timeouts unless you use the drivers that come with MPT, *and*, in the case of V325 and V323m users, use the special installer that I posted which sets up usbsermptxp.sys with PID 0x2A22.

2) Most P2k tools won't work on CDMA because they aren't written properly

3) The modem and P2k drivers are available at a million places if you would just use Google

4) Most phones don't like to be plugged in to anything except the USB ports directly on your machine; if you get the exclamation point in Device Manager, reboot, clean your machine with DriverTool, and plug it in somewhere else

So, do us all a favor, and read and understand this post before you spew another "where can i get the v3 usb drivers i am a n00b kthx bye." onto the forum.

Tell you what........hope you're not referring to me and my post in this section, because I don't have a pirated MPT, I don't have daisy chained hubs, and/or docking stations, and I have an original motorola cable, and I haven't used seem edit or any other "hacking" method. I have a plain V3c Razr that worked with MPT a couple weeks ago, and is freaking out now.

And yet you admit in a post in your other thread, an hour after posting this, that it started working when you didn't plug it into your hub. Shocking.

You oviously didn't read my posts very carefully.........I don't have a hub, plugged it straight into the computer, and tried all the usb ports.........it just started working out of nowhere. I know what I';m talking about so mind your own business. You don't like what people post, don't read it........jerk!

Sorry for the double post.........Hey a1b2c3d4e5............I don't owe any explanation for anything, but I'll do it anyway. Before I ever made my first post in the other thread that you refer to, my MPT wasn't detecting my phone no matter what usb port it was plugged in to!!!! , and that's why I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, not knowing what else to try, since it had been working fine using the port on the front of my tower!!!! All I said was that now it started working out of nowhere using that port, but not the port on the back of my tower, and that whole thing has been unusual. I'm not a computer geek, but I'm also not a moron, which is what you insinuated in this thread, so, again mind your own business!!!!!! It's amazing that you can take the time you obviuosly took to read my posts, and the time to make another thread *****ing about people trying to get help, but you can't offer any suggestions, especially when you come off like you know so much................give me freakin break! Knock the chip off your shoulder.

Ok, so let's see here:

1) In my original post I already said you should try different ports on your machine, so that's been covered.

2) If the rear ports on your machine don't work, they are probably implemented through a hub. Do you see "Generic USB hub" in device manager? If so, well, there's your hub.

I am glad that Mark Venture is here. He offers vast knowledge into the subject of modding, and he is always glad to answer questions. Instead of ripping the newbs, who will always be newbs and not search first, why not praise the people that make this forum an unending plethora of information?

O.k. I'm not trying to be an *** here............but I already had said, long before your first post, that it wasn't working, no matter what port I tried !!! It has always worked through the front port, and now, it is again, so I still don't know why it stopped, that's all I was trying to say. And no, I don't have a "Generic USB hub" in device manager.......I just checked, and thanks for at least giving some feedback. There is a "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller".........could that be it? I did add a USB 2.0 to the tower a while back, and that went in my last PCI slot, but my MPT was working fine on my front port after that, so never tried it until the other night, just to see if a different port made a difference, and, it didn't. I still don't know why it just started working, out of the blue.

Uhhhh, not necessarily true dude, I do plenty of searching, so quit with the generalized statements. Not everyone is a computer geek, or queer for their cell phone.

That "generalized" statement holds true for about 95% of new members on this board. Not everyone falls into that category, but the majority do. You don't have to be a computer geek or "queer" for your cell phone to know how to use a message board properly.

True, although a1b2c3d4e5 has a depth of knowledge about MPT that I don't think Mark will ever have. Ever wonder why a1b2c3d4e5 was in here advertising the MPT 4 beta program? Put 2 'n' 2 together

ok so because my post count is small i must ask stupid questions like "uh my phone is teh br0kt3d plz help my k thx". no I think not. Nothing against u its just aggrivating that its based on ur post count. Theres a reason why i spend most of my time at "the other forum.."

Hmm. I have a Mac, so my use of MPT or pretty much any of the p2k tools other than Moto4lin is non existent. I don't know anything about a beta program, and I have never paid attention to anyone's post count. I am just here to learn, and to possibly help others, as I have been helped.

I would have to agree with you.........sorry if I came on kind of strong, it was just that I saw I think 60 something views on my post in another thread asking for some kind of suggestions, and no one helped at all.

And he has a vast knowledge because he READS POSTS/THREADS (even if they don't pertain to a phone he owns) and comprehends them...

I got my V710 in April '05... "long after" it was released... I read and learned before i got my phone... My initial pages were put up shortly after becuase my co-workers kept asking me.. "Hey, how did you do that??" I got my E815 April '06... again.. a little late... but it was very similar to the V710... so the knowlege spilled over... and I was adding E815 stuff to my pages BEFORE I got one because of reading the threads..

I read about the chocolate before mine arrived.. and was able to hack it too the day I got it..

I don't have a V3C or V3M... but I can disucss most features, functions, hacks, seem edits, etc.. because I've read many many many posts/threads on them since they've been released... and engauged in inteligent discussions based on what I've read...

I think that is what a1b2c3d4e5 is saying that too many newbies don't do.. read the current threads/posts in an effort to read and understand... they just want to be spoon fed and hand held then go on their merry way... if EVERYONE does that, this forum will go into the toliet... I see the tone of the "senior members" in the Verizon/Moto section changing... getting tired of answering the same question over and over and over.. and its going to start driving those "in the know" away...

As for ripping newbies.. Um, well, Yeah, I kind of do that too on occasion .. more so when I've had a bad day at work BUT especailly when someone PM's me the EXACT TEXT of a question they also posted in a thread ... See some of my comments in -> http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=813135 or -> http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=653105 Ok, so I might not come out and RIP as HARD as I've seen others do... but I still do it... Come to think of it.. I don't really see a1b2c3d4e5 ripping people very much... at least not nearly as bad as some others..

Yup, and I don't need to know much more than how to install, config, and do ring tones, pictures and such... That is the most popular.. So I leave the rest to the EXPERTS!!

Now, to a1b2c3d4e5 Your initial post starting this thread was on point. We've seen it over and over.. I for one don't think it will get better. Someone once suggested we just ignore those posting repetitive questions, but I've seen the nasty remarks come from those being ignored, and they bump their own threads...

But there is something I think you left out... When someone does finally ask a question based on what they've read.. they should phrase it in such a way that shows they've made an attempt to read/understand/follow what has been written, and give details of what they've done, how, and what the outcome was.. being as descriptive as possible...

I for one am more inclind to help a user who says.. I've done the seem edits for MPT's File Transfers, using seem 2742, bytes 0000, and I checked bit 0 at offset 6A, but I get "ERROR MESSAGE" when I go into MPT v4.21a and try and use MutliMedia Studio.. what could be wrong?? As compared to someone who just says... I have the latest MPT and it don't work

What I don't get is that it would seem to require far less effort to just type "e815 mpt" into Google and start reading than to register for an account here, make a post, watch for replies, and so on.

This link is the first result for "e815 mpt" on Google, at least right now:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=674803

Look at that post! That tells you every single thing you ever need to know, right there. And yet..

Posted by: metalliholic

Like I said, I tried everything I knew, and came here, looking for posts/threads about my particular problem, or what might be the solution, and couldn't, and asked kindly for help in another thread, and got no help at all. I still don't know what resolved my problem, but it wasn't from any help here.

a1b2c3d4e5 should know by now that u cant stop 'new' old questions.. forums are for accessable help , not to take the piss out of a simple question with a simple answer..
