I've been with Cingular for ever and my old Nokia phone finally gave up. I tried to replace it with a flip phone a while back but couldn't get a signal at the house with the flip phone. I have to get a new phone and need info as to what type gets the best reception for Cingular--does buying a phone with a 900/1900 Mhz vs 850/1900 Mhz make a difference? Any help would be appreciated. I live on a lake with a lot of trees, but my old phone still got at least 2 bars.

Nokia (almost) always has good RF, and Moto's RAZR is known for it's reception as well.
That said...I get Nokia-esque reception from my Cingular 2125 smartphone, I've had Nokias only previous to this one and find it matches and perhaps beats my last Nokia, the 6230. Search around and match the features that you want to the phone that gets good signal.
GSM in the US only uses 800(850) Mhz and 1900 Mhz, regardless if it's Cingular or T-Mobile. 900 and 1800 Mhz are only used overseas and not necessary in North America. Cingular uses BOTH 850 (800 and 850 are interchangeable terms for most purposes, the original cellualr band started in the low 800's, but 850 is more accurate term) and 1900 and any phone sold by them will have both. If you decide to get a non-North American phone from eBay or elsewhere, though it MAY work, you may not get good reception as it may lack the 850 band. there is a FAQ on this subject...search for it.
