CU500 Memory Card Problem

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Every time I try to access it in the phone, it says "card not ready". I just got the card today, put it in, had thie problem. Then thought for some gay reason it could have been a formatting issue.... but.... threw mp3's on it from my lappy, back to phone, still nogo. Anyone else have this issue or have any suggestions? Thanks

details would be helpful... type, size & brand of card?

If it's a Kingston, I would return it and get the SanDisk. I had a 512MB Kingston and it wouldn't work ("Card not ready"). Replaced it with a 1GB SanDisk and works beautifully.

Perhaps kingston cards are not formatted from the factory?

And perhaps more importantly, perhaps the cu500 can't format an unformatted card...

It is a kingston card-- but I got a really good deal- I guess I'll try to format it. Just doesn't make sense that I could put albums on it while in the computer if it's not formatted. I'll give it a shot though and post results

Its not a formatting issue at all... Mine, at least, works fine (though after quite a bit of trouble, admittedly).

After repeatedly reseating the card, rebooting the phone, checking the memory card, and trying again, I eventually got it to work. Of course, then I decided to remove the card, put some files on it via the included TransFlash to SD adapter, and lo and behold, it stopped working again. It's working now, but it took me many tries.

From what I've found on google, it seems certain TransFlash/MicroSD cards are made with less plastic, which causes them to be a little thinner, and as such don't always have good contact. But don't quote me on that.

yeah, I got it to work eventually but it wasn't worth the hassle. If you power off the phone, take out the memory card, take out the battery, you'll have to work to get it to recognize the memory card again.

If you format it, it must be formatted as FAT32.

kuj: did you have this problem of reinserting with your kingston or sandisk?

perhaps buying the memory card from where you bought the phone would be of help. Usually they will carry memory that works. Much less hassle and much less gas and headaches had just paying a few dollars more at the cell store. Make sense? I uded my san disk and it worked right away

ibndfan: I had the same problems as you with the Kingston. No such problems with the SanDisk.

I bought both my Kingston 512MB and 1GB SanDisk from brand new from newegg.com. I remember reading from either this forum or the official Cingular forum that either Kingston does not support the CU500 or LG does not support the Kingston.

This is one of the disadvantages of being an early adopter. I bought the phone when it first came out. I figured I would be safe with the Kingston since I've used memory cards from them before plus they're a little cheaper. Little did I know that it didn't work well with the phone.

Hmm my wifes CU500 was fine using the card I have in my D807 and I have it formatted FAT it is a san disc. My wife bought a Kingston 1gig and it didn't work. Formatted it FAT then tried FAT32 and it did not work either way in her phone but worked in my phone no problem(in both formats). So I would say only use san disc.......period.
