Flash or not? (v3x)

I have a v3x I got yesterday and it's all very good apart from my Voadfone branded s/w. I want to flash it with unbranded flash, however when I flashed my previous phone (e770v) streaming Vodafone content stopped working. I'd like to be able to continue to do this with unbranded s/w. Is this possible with the v3x?
And is there a way I could back up my flash in case I need to go back?
