Stupid Ringer Wont Assign

ok i need help badly i have the kx5 from alltel and when i try to assign a ringer that i put on phone via usb cable in the savesnd folder it starts to then says file cannot be assigned i need some help i tried make the last part of name .mid .tim and nothing all though if i look at the details still says the file is an .mp3 if this is problem then tell me how to change it from that???

well first off if ur using it as a regular ringtone u dont have to change it

if ur wanting to use it as the default then it has to be mid......but u have to the tools options, file ext thing

and manually change the ringer to whatever.mid .......if u try to just rename it, it wont work

i never save them as .mid and they always work for me anyway.
