Ugh, lackluster choices...

Ok, here's the deal...

I have a Motorola V555 and it's been a great phone. Lately, the battery has been lasting shorter and shorter and the charger/charging connection is on the fritz. It tells me "Unable to Charge" a buncha times and then finally if I keep plugging it in, it eventually charges. Well, I've just come up for new equipment since my contract is up May 07. My choices are pretty ******. I can get a Razr V3 (the original one, not one of the newer ones) for $79.99 or a Nokia 6103 for $29.99. Neither of them really catch my eye for some reason. I mean, the Razr is basically the same OS and features as my V555, and the nokia seems pretty entry level, actually, it seems a step down from my current phone. I don't really seem to want either of these, and my other choices are even worse (go to CellularOne.com and type in a zipcode of 44446 to see what I mean). But in a few months when I go for a new contract, will there be anything better? If I found another Motorola or something GSM, could my provider actually order it? Could you recommend something that's a step up from the V555 but is greater than or equal to the $80 dollar tag on the V3? Even in a few months, I couldnt spring for a 150-200 dollar phone. So I dunno what to do. Help me out!

1. welcome to technology, i bought my phone (my SE w900) for $600 when it first came out 6 months ago, and i had just turned 17. so your gonna need to spring for a lot higher than that, but i will try to see what i can do for you.

2. you bought a Motorola. that was your first mistake.

3. dont buy a phone from your carrier, they will (and trust me, ALWAYS will) rip you off. its not really their fault, they just have to make money off of the phones they sell you. so be smart and buy your phone online, and forget those contracts.

oh and for your phone suggestion, your going to need to tell us what you want from a phone (features, size, form factor, etc) before anyone can help you...

1. I know better technology is more money, but I'm a college student, Junior year, and I want as solid a phone as I can get for as little money as I can get it for. I don't want a P.O.S like the V220 they tried to give me for free before I got my V555.

2. My V555 has done VERY well for me. Good reception, nice feel (feels heavy and quality, not cheap like the V220) and the like...It's been a good phone.

3. I've looked online, but I'm increasingly worried about Ebay. I've purchased from there with no problems before but mainly for private sellers that have actual item pictures. I hate places with stock photos because you never know what you're getting.

As for my features, I'd like something better than a VGA camera. Even though I don't use it a TON, I do use it. I wan't good reception and good construction. It needs to feel solid. Has to be GSM cause I'm still under contract with Cellular One and even if I leave them later, It'll probably still be a GSM service. But if you want to recommend CDMA phones, I'd consider going to Verizon for the right price and phone. SD expandability is nice, but if it has decent internal memory, it's not necessary. MP3 player isn't necessary because I already have a flash player. Bluetooth is good. Flip design preferably.

I am not saying this is the way to go but here some Verizon info for you. Verizon has many options and some are under 100 if you sign a two year deal the razr v3m is under 70 bucks and so is the lg8300 ,chocolate you can get for 150 and theres quite a few on there site but with two year agreement you will then be able to get a free phone each two years is up when you sign a new plan and you get free phone under 100 bucks plus you get free in minutes so the more friends you have on verizon the better when you call them it dont cost mintues thats why i have verizon is becuase i have alot of family that have it and it dont cost me to call them.

They have the chocolate in Gsm unless your talking about the 8300.

I think the V635 may be an option. The V3i is identical in features to the V635, so it's just a matter of form factor. Those would be prudent options if you want to carry on with Motorola.

The V635 is a good phone...a bit old now, but good. Its a got a nice part metal body and looks very professional. It also has EDGE and expandable memory, a flash and a 1.23 mp camera that actually does pretty well (I haven't gotten some down right amazing pics from it). If you thought your V555 was good then you should try the V635...it feels much more solid and well built.

Yeah I was gonna say you will like the 635 since it has similar to your v555 i think i really love my v710 becuase of the keypad is like the v600.
