Questions about the MS Smartphone OS

Hey guys, I have some questions about the MS Smartphone OS. I use to have a Qtek 8310 and I guess I could have tested this, but I never did and I end up selling it to upgrade to a PPC phone. Now when and if Samsung releases the i600 with GSM 850, I'm interested in returning to the Smartphone OS platform. I do have some questions though.

Does the Smartphone OS have the same version of Outlook that is present in the PPC? Are there any programs that is as powerful as Pocket Word and Excel for the Smartphone OS? Is it possible to input Chinese characters with the Smartphone OS? I know I can do this on the PPC via third party programs. Thanks.

To my knowledge both OS's have the same version of pocketOutlook.

Currently and unfortunitly there is nothing that will allow you to edit Office files on the smartphone, but Clearvue suite will allow you to view any MS Office files on your phone, (i.e. Word, excel, powerpoint).

Don't quote me on this, but I belive that there are third party apps out there that will add Chinese. I do know that depending on your phone different ROM's will have that feature/language pack. I know my smartflip came with chinese, arabic, etc. that I have since removed.

Hope this helps a little...

I love my WM5 smartphone, but I have to admit, that they are not substitutes for PPC's...or the current HTC Wizard/Hermes type slide-pout keyboard PDA phones. THey are primarily designed to copy documents FROM your computer to carry around on the phone, rather than working ON your phone to transfer data TO your computer. You can (and I do) work with writing short notes and short data fields on my Smartphone, but never more than a line or two at a time. And unless you have a bluetooth keyboard, you are going to be entering data on your smartphone with a phone keypad - not the way to go with anything more than a few words at a time.

I rarely edit documents on the go so it's not an issue for me. How's clearvue when it comes to opening word and excel documents? Is it as good as the real deal?

If it came with the language pack installed, how would you enable the phone to start typing in that language?

Well it depends on how you mean the real deal. With things like word, the screen is two small to use a broad zoom, you have to get up close with the zoom which can cause a lot of scrolling, but all the content will be there. Power point works well (which is what I use the most).

If Chinese is installed you would simply have to change it in regional settings, unless it is a third party app which would be activated via the app...
