Samsung A707 3G

Yet another phone I found leaked on the Cingular Dev site: http://attwsddp.hadw.com/developer/...sung_a707.jhtml

It's weird though, because its specifications are like mixed in with the i607, but both are 3G phones.

I think the part you're reading is what got mixed up with the i607. 80% of the A707's specs are wrong. It would make sense how it has Real Video though since that is what Cingular uses for Cingular Video.

Slightly off-topic, but has anyone else noticed that the first four letters of the Cingular Dev site (url) are "ATTW" (AT&T Wireless)?

Posted by: tuolumne

The name they are going back to?

I know they'll revert back to theATTW name once the Bellsouth/ATT merger is approved, I just noticed the url (on the dev site). I never paid attention to it before.

No, the site was orginally an ATT Wireless Dev site. Cingular didn't have one. When Cingular aquired ATT they just kept the site going under the ATT name.

I saw that too hitechy. Looks interesting for sure. Well anything 3G looks interesting at this point doesn't it?

Oh, ok...that makes sense. I wasn't implying otherwise, I was just responding to tuolumne.

Sure does . We're lacking in that department.

Looks like it has an antenna.

WHY?

Posted by: hitechy

I just noticed that it says the phone only has UMTS. They must have just left out the HSDPA, as it makes no sense to have juts UMTS.

I have no idea. I find it funny how Samsung puts antennas on all of their GSM flip models but not on CDMA models which need longer antennas.

The ones on Cingular, yes: not all GSM, vis. the t-mo t2x9/3x9/6x9/7x9. thought it might be an 850mhz thing, or a domestic triband thing, but they've got quads (the 719) with no external antenna.

So, definitely no idea why the Cingular Samsung GSMs get the shaft (literally).

No, it's only their GSM Cingular phones - T-Mobile and almost all other international providers have intenna Samsungs.

CDMA doesn't need an antenna to maintain excellent RF either. That's why they made CDMA phones with intennas entirely.

I meant all Cingular Samsungs . And no, CDMA phones have needed the external antennas. A year ago almost every CDMA phone had an antenna. As time has progressed more the antennas have gone. It was the case not too lonhg ago that almost all CDMA phones were inferior to GSM. Things have changed in 2 years though.

how come the rest of that site isnt working?

I wasn't arguing if they had mostly antennas two years ago, but rather that performance is not hindered with internal antennas.

Samsung hasn't released a CDMA antenna handset with an antenna since June of 2005, really.

Oh man, you and tuolumne may have to take this one out back, I think he is going to see them as fighting words.

Not as good as your T720, that is.

I think that dev website has it wrong. First of all the picture is not of the i607 which is coming to cingular. Secondly A707 could be the code name of the clamshell model which looks like this. I think that picture is totally wrong. Since the info for the i607 does not match the picture, makes you think what else they got wrong.

Here is the i607, which is coming to Cingular.

http://podcasts.engadget.com/2006/0...ng-to-cingular/

Here is the Samsung i610 WS clamshell, I don't think that they would develop another one just for Cingular that is completly different with just UMTS. My guess is that this is coming to Cingular as the A707. Same phone but different HSDPA bands for the US.

http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5550.html

The specs are the same on the DEV web site as the i610, exact same. Dimensions and all.

Notice the similarities?

I have a strange feeling that Cingular is the one requesting the antenna (on these Samsung phones).

I hate these god damned antennas.

Cingular is the one I am blaming.

I guess they feel reception is more important than asthetics even though it hardly makes a noticable difference.

I guess I'm not the only one who thinks Cingular is the culprit.

Isn't this supposed to be a WM5 clamshell? On the dev site it says it was. So why is this thread in the reg phones forum? Shouldn't it be on the smartphone forum?

The i607 and a707 specs got mixed up.

Posted by: FidoFan

I don't see how the there can even be a Samsung "A707".
A = CDMA in Samsung model numbers
XX7 = Cingular

the two shouldn't be mixed!

as i suggested in another thread, i think it's either A) a typo (A should be a D), or B) Samsung is using the A to indicate its a WCDMA phone, but that'd just be confusing.

Posted by: Faceless Rebel

No matter what it's called, it's one FUGLY phone. I'll keep my CU500, thanks.

Posted by: anubis9278

well its official, the 707 will replace the zx20 sometime in november
