I have a v710 getting the unable to charge problem, but it charges fine when i hold the charger back so the contacts are pressing harder against the phone. I plugged in my data cable to the phone, and it recognized it by beeping without my touching it. Is there somewhere i can get the "big-plug" style charger? or is there a way to make one?

V710 have charging problems....
we just resolder the I/O connector to repair them.

if that not the case and then simply give the contacts a good scraping and tooth brushing (motorola sent us a reapir kit which included a tooth brush (oral B :P ), dental tool and an eraser :O. ) and good luck heheh (btw v710's are lame to take apart :P)

how would i go about resoldering the i/o? is it really a pain to take apart? i'll try the toothbrush method first :-)

when u are opening the phone the casing at the bottom of the phone has clips the u have to almost ory out and then slide the casing off (do not try to pull the casing straight off u will break the clips). When u get in to the phone check the pins that are soldered to the main board see if any of them wiggle or move if so re-solder them .

all the connections seem ok...i cant figure out what the problem is. I vacummed it brushed it scraped it...

stupid question have u tried a different charger? :P

yeah i have...none work...the plug seems too loose inside the phone. Tried squeezing the connector on the phone tighter but it didnt seem to do anything.

Have you actually opened the phone and inspected the solder joints? If you've got the lower case off, connect the charger and wiggle the plug carefully. If you can see the solder contact move, they need to be resolderd. You'll need a very sharp tipped low wattage iron to do this.

If your phone is under one year old, send it into Motorola and they will replace the charge port for no fee under the manufacturers warranty. If it is beyond warranty, it only costs $30. Motorola needs to held responsible for their shotty design. The manufacturer recommends not talking on the phone while it is plugged into the charger.
