S55 Charger for use in US

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm about to purchase the S55 from Expansys. I spoke to one of their customer service reps and she told me it does NOT come with a US charger.

Where can I get a converter for it to work in the US? How large is the converter?

Thanks

No worries...Expansys provides you an adapter (to convert UK -> US plug) when you purchase any phone from them. It will be in the box with your new phone. As with most modern mobiles, the transformer built into the charger takes care of converting the power (regardless of where in the world you plug it in). You should know…Since the UK charger is designed for 220v input; it takes about 4 hours to fully charge the phone on 110v current. In a couple of months the S56 accessories will hit the shelves. When that happens definitely buy one of the US plug-in chargers to reduce charging time to about 2 hours. If you drive, purchase one of the car charge adapters while they are still in stock @ Expansys. That doesn't come with the phone and they are very difficult to find in the US.

Strange the person you spoke with didn’t tell you all that. Did you call the US or UK hotline?

Thanks for the quick reply. I will go ahead and get the car charger as well.

I called the US number but the lady (heavy english accent) told me they are now routing all calls to the UK so the US location can concentrate on shipping goods.

Thanks again.

I had read this thread recently. May give you a better understanding about S55 accessories...

BTW: I have the UK charger + little adapter 'thingy' (technical term ) and it works fine. Uhhh: Meaning I got the same rig you are buying with the S55 when I got mine. I haven't looked at the CT56 stuff yet..

Thanks for all the replies. I ordered it and it should be here tomorrow. One last question. I'm going to be using the phone on AT&T GSM service. Can you direct me to where I can find the proper GPRS settings for this phone on the AT&T network?

Thanks..

The phone is not working on the entire AT&T GSM network.

Best of luck.

Even stores like Radio Shack will carry the adapter for the s55. I bought one from there for my S40 a couple years back so I use that one and the adapter from my S100 on the s55 charger. I hope you enjoy your new mobile! I am curious it the s55 not compatible on AT&T in the U.S. peroid of does it work in certain areas and not in others?

I'm in South Florida. I got the phone today. It seems to work fine here. I'll keep you posted.

Anyone have the GPRS setup info for AT&T?

Pls reply with what FW version you have on your phone. Thanks.

For those having problems, I recommend getting a new sim card.

That might fix the problem. So it does work with AT&T ... weird

Posted by: DWIM

Yea, but...

Those of us in the CA SF Bay area are apparently being connected with Ericsson central equipment. I didn't hear anything about what equipment the person in Florida was connecting with.

And... he's got version 04. I started with that, then moved to 05. Still can't connect (i.e., initiate or rcv voice).

OTOH, you say maybe switching SIMs would do the trick? Upon what basis do you make that statement? Not challenging, just asking.

Well... maybe it IS worth a shot. Any input would be welcome.

So I can't edit the message. Must add a new one...

Also, have an r520m & a t68i. The SIM works fine in the r520m & the t68i. Am able to get SMS on the S55 too (haven't checked other gprs functions (send sms, wap); just can't initiate or rcv voice calls. This still indicative of replacing the SIM?

What does version 05 add/fix? Worth updating or should I just be happy it's working?

Posted by: DWIM

Sorry I can't be of better help to you...

- I have not found a definitive list of fixes / enhancements that accompany any FW update. Seems as though Siemens doesn't publish such a thing (or they don't advertise it or I don't (yet) know about it...).

- OTOH: I have seen others' post about fixes / adds they have noticed. You'd have to search for more info, mostly here on HF. I assume you are aware of www.club-siemens.com also...

- Looking at others' posts about 05, it seems a safe upgrade. Given my S55 isn't (yet?) working for voice (AT&T specific CA SF Bay area problem re Ericsson switches), I can't recommend much.

Just curious what networks all the s55 users in the US are on. I know many people have had troubles with AT&T so what about the rest are you all using Cingular or TMobile?

Posted by: mantis5

I am using my S55 on T-Mobile since I am in one of the AT&T areas using Ericsson equipt. Since T-Mobile uses Cingular's network here, you could say I'm using Cingular too. My op logo does (say Cingular Wireless.)

Posted by: Synncere

Is there a way to tell what cities AT&T uses Ericsson equipt? I have heard that the s55 works fine with AT&T in Nevada but that's all I heard. I have friends in the US that are going to buy the s55 and are wondering if they should swith carriers so they can use s55 when they get it.

Posted by: mantis5

I believe a couple of people have said AT&T and S55 are happy together in Florida, but I don't know of any official equipment list. I wish some nice AT&T insider would post one.

Posted by: Synncere

You'd think they would... I know a couple people that have been tryin' to find out but everyone they talk to at AT&T seems to give the same reply of that answer is of no concern to the general public and their networks are just fine... which may be true yeah it may be functionable but not with this mobile in particular. Personally I have never been a fan of their network or service anyways... I usually use Cingular or Tmobile over the past few years when I have been visiting the US. My 2 cents.

Posted by: mantis5

I have been pretty happy w/AT&T, S55 issues notwithstanding, but I have noticed that not many people here at HoFo share my happiness...

Posted by: Synncere

@ Mantis5----- You poor poor soul how I pity you for feeling that way lol Jokes :laughs:
