I'm sorry but the last time I remember cricket having a phone that high priced we only sold 1-2 units a month tops at our store. This is just nutswinging rights just to say they offer the iPhone. I doubt its subsidized at all at that price point.

You have to have people buying them to have a load in the first place lol

It is subsidized. The full retail on a 16 GB iPhone 4S is $649.

Don't underestimate the power of the iPhone. While Cricket's network will have a subpar experience the device will be the best device available. I'm willing to bet Q3 will see positive net subscribers due to this.

      Is this statement correct?

"What I find most interesting about this is that Cricket is offering this only in markets that don't depend on 1700 MHz spectrum, which are quite a few in number. It makes sense given that the hardware doesn't support it, but why spend almost a billion dollars to bring in a single phone that will work only on a portion of its network?" - Grab it on Phonescoop

The real question is how can a company, that from all accounts is nearly bankrupt, afford to offer the the most expensive phone to its customers? Someone else has to be behind this move that we don't know about as of yet. This will be interesting. I can't see smart consumers spending that much money for a phone on a prepaid network they may not like and then having no where to take the phone if they hate the service.

ah so the usage rate is raised specifically for the iPhone. I asked about this after noticing the article says 2.3gb but the "Welcome to cricKet" email I got says 1GB. cool!! may strongly consider getting the 4S if coverage is available in my area of Georgia.

Hmmm this is kinda shocking that they're able to price it at 399 for the iphone 4? I wonder how much cricket has to pay apple per iphone? As others have said though, i don't expect this to take off.

I would like to take this time to laugh at all the naysayers who said the iphone would never come to prepaid.

This is not to make money..... It's an act of desperation just to increase the subscriber count on paper. As everyone knows these phones bring in a load of subs but they also have razor thin profit margins due to high network usage.

All this does is hide the massive subscriber loss for the upcoming quarter just like all the winback promo's they are dong. This WILL backfire on them in time. I don't see them making it past Q3.

Yes that is correct as of now they are implementing call backs at store level to retain customers. As a bonus or bribe those who retain customers from Jan to June will receive a money per customers towards the store to share among the employees. So people are calling to make sure they don't disconnect.

Full retail is not the true price of the phone, that's the retail price that they are able to extract from customers who do not buy on subsidy/contract. So any subsidy is minimal at best. Carriers such as Verizon and ATTM want to see inflated retail prices, it increases customers on contract.

I also agree that Cricket will see an increase of net subscribers. Hopefully their network is up to the challenge.

I wonder why TMo (I'm not a TMo customer BTW) can't get in on the iPhone. This isn't really as shocking as C-Spire getting the iPhone, honestly. However, the fact that both of them would get it before TMo is inconceivable to me.

T-Mobile's 3G/4G network runs on 1700MHz, which the iPhone (and most smartphones by default) doesn't support. Not a very common band, some small/new unlimited prepaid Canadian carriers also use it.

Although if Apple really wanted to, I suppose they could include it. Samsung and Nokia have managed to include it in a few high end phones by default.

Or Apple really hates T-Mobile for being the launch carrier for Android. lol

I'll stick w/ my ATT iPhone w/ 3gb data, unlimited m2m, 5000 nites and weekends 9pm-6am, and 450+rollover plan. I got a refurbed 32gb white iPHone 4s w/ a 2 yr plan. (saved $50 for the refurb). worth it in my book.

I currently have 970 rollover minutes since the phone is only 3 months old.

In no way am i trying to convince you to jump ship but the CricKet iPhone has nearly 90% of the allotted data you have plus unlimited 2G after that, MORE monthly minutes, MORE weekend minutes, and other than coverage and entry price($555 for the 4S, $455 for the 4) it's a worthy investment IMO and considering my scenario($1000 for AT&T deposit).

not to mention if you have to pay a deposit you're looking at $150-$300 along with the iPhone plus activation fee anyway putting you in range of $350-$500 for the phone anyway.

you do have a VERY AWESOME deal but I'm certain there are other factors which allowed you that plan. also how much is your plan monthly?
