Rogers coverage in St. John's still barely covers the suburbs (EDGE, HSPA or LTE). :/

How's the lte coverage in Calgary ? Is it downtown only ?

I am glad to see the expansion. I was waiting to buy a new phone once LTE launched in Regina and Saskatoon but decided that a $350 Galaxy Nexus from Google Play was too good a deal to pass up on. Unfortunately it looks like now Saskatchewan will have LTE in Regina and Saskatoon and EDGE throughout the rest of the province. Even with that the EDGE coverage is very very thin in places. I often have to go to Prince Albert and although Rogers coverage maps say they have coverage over the entire city they don't. 0 bars at either the families house there or inside many buildings including the mall with a Rogers store in it. The employees have to apologize to people because of the lack of coverage in their own store.

Just thought I would add this to the conversation too. Its an article from the Saskatoon paper about Rogers attempting to build a tower in a church parking lot which I am sure is for the LTE roll out. They have lost the fight with the neighbourhood and are now looking at other options. What I find most interesting is that they currently have 20 towers in Saskatoon with no plans to build more. Sasktel has 15 plus many more on top of light poles and the roofs of buildings with plans to build another 15 more. Seems like Rogers has little interest to provide much more than the bare minium to the city. Add to that the fact the Telus and to some extent Bell share towers with Sasktel it looks like Rogers doesn't want to compete on the city that much.

Sounds like Rogers wanted to build a tower and the people said no, Rogers just need to tell them no cell tower no service and move on.

Yes I agree. I am not happy with the people of the neighborhood saying no to the tower but Rogers having little to no interest in putting up more towers is unacceptable in my mind. It is that reason that I plan on waiting until the end of the year when my contract is up and moving on from Rogers. I originally signed up in 2007 and the coverage has only marginally improved in the past five years. There is still HSPA in Regina and Saskatoon and the EDGE coverage is very weak outside the cities.

Is there a timeframe given for any of this? Maybe a source link from which one can read tea leaves?

And watch the LTE speeds for the current service areas plummet lol... I was getting 6Mbps down when 3G wen't live in my area. Then everyone bought a 3G phone and now I'm lucky to get 1Mbps with any of my many phones.

Exactly. If sasktel has been able to get towers up, let them have the area. Worst case, Rogers lays off a few staff to make up the lost revenue. Rogers obviously had little to no interest in the area anyway. Sasktel will probably keep hiring.

Sounds like you've given Rogers their chance. Need to tell them no service, no customer and move on.

I live in one of those cities and when I worked for Rogers I was told to say LTE would be around this summer... I upgraded my plan to be LTE ready. While the summer isn't over, and no timeline has been given I would not be surprised if it isn't until next year having worked for Rogers 5 + years.

I spotted a Rogers billboard pimping LTE in Winnipeg today. I wonder if that means it's coming sooner rather than later.
