      Seems to be matching others.

Telus seem to be pushing hard with the 16GB version for $99.

Would be nice if providers actually competed instead of just matching/copying each others pricing and deals.

These are Apple approved price drops...Apple is the one instructing everyone to copy each other in these cases.

Part of the reason I tend to avoid apple products. Seem to run the biggest price fixing campaign imaginable.

If you look into it it's actually quite common, from electronics to clothing, it's called minimal advertised price but if dealer sell it any lower they are cut off on wholesale.

I guess new iphone is due soon, not that I'll ever want one.

So... $70-80 in savings by buying a nearly one year old device that
      A) you have to give the carrier your soul for 3 years for, and
      B) is likely to be out of software support a year earlier than whatever they launch in 3 weeks?

Sorry, but I don't get it. Losing a year of software support (and a year of having the latest coolest thing) for a mere $70, when the total cost of ownership is in the thousands? There is a reason both my parents got preordered 4Ses last year...

Your parents are that concerned about having the latest coolest thing? Or they really need the software support?

This. There's nothing more infuriating than being stuck one or two OS releases behind, especially when Apple isn't even fixing bugs with the older releases. e.g. I seem to remember a bug with DST changes and alarms in iOS 4.x, don't think it ever was fixed for the 3G which is stuck at 4.2.something. Same with security bugs. If you have a 3G nowadays, you're on your own, full stop...

Would not want it for 0$.

Unless you mean $199 without a contract. Then I might think about it......

A few bucks more will get you the Iphone 5, no idea why anyone in the world would do this.
