That was one small part of the trade dress issues which themselves were a very small part if the overall list of accusations.

I got the impression from following the trial that, Samsung took the whole trial as a joke. I also think Samsung behaved a bit arrogant in thinking that they could get away with not submitting all their evidence, in on time, when they had plenty of time to do so.

I also think Samsung could have avoided all this mess, by just releasing a clean Android OS phone, with no skins or augmentation and forcing carriers to leave it as is with no carrier lock. Samsung may have sold more too.

I got the idea they weren't taking it seriously either. In fact since the very first lawsuit apple filed against them Samsung gave the distinct impression they considered the trials to be great press for their products. I would actually submit that one of the reasons that Samsung was able to so quickly go from a second rate mobile maker that no one cared about and into the sales leader they are now is because of the attention the lawsuits gave them. They became the standard bearer for the entire 'I hate Apple' crowd. The other vendors didn't play up the fact that they were being sued nor were they as blatant in the copying. This all have Samsung an aura of being the anti-Apple
champion to the point the followers set aside aall logic and reason and common sense.

Worst case for Samsung is they lose $1B from this trial. When this nonsense started their phones were absolute garbage. That $1B can be considered marketing money or engineering monies they saved by copying Apple
to get their phones and mindshare to where they are now, which are pretty good these days. The damages are nothing for either company and Samsung would have spent far more over the last couple years trying to get their phones and image to where they are now on their own.

Yeah, but you have to think that the other OEMs who aren't making money hand-over-fist to think seriously about what they might be in for.

Also, Google sitting the back murmuring sweet nothings to Motorola encouraging them on has to be nervously licking their lips thinking about the $10B they spent for those FRAND encumbered patents.

I am glad apple won. Korean company been copying and making tons of money out of it. Look at Samsung s3 designed for human and inspired by nature their English so broken so does that mean before this all their phones and other manufacturer designed their phones for alien?

Once someone takes the market over, the others can still innovate. This article is retarded. Look at automobiles, Toyota took over top top spot, but others ate making great cars! I agree Samsung pushed it with the look of their phone, and touchwiz, but everything else was around before the iPhone, and apple winning will slow innovation, because now people will say "see Apple did invent the smartphone" and buy more same as the last iPhones. Interesting take from an Android fan. It is obvious that every Android vendor that isn't Samsung is bleeding to death. Samsung took copying to a whole other level with their products, allowing them to save billions in R&D and marketing, while the other vendors seems to have tried to play it a little straighter, perhaps to their detriment. What once had the potential to be a truly thriving ecosystem of manufacturers now appears to be littered with dying mobile divisions and thousands of people being laid off. Much of that is because Samsung managed to so suddenly go from being a second rate phone company into the world leader. While HTC and Moto and Sony had to invest heavily into their phones, Samsung shortcutted the process and cut these guys off at the knees. Samsung's copying may have hurt Android more than it hurt Apple.

It was a loaded jury, with a silly judge in Apple's backyard, I think Samsung should win an appeal request on those facts alone. Stupid Apple, when the tough get going, they sit in their rear and sue the tough!
