• Phone service coming to soon to TTC Subway Stations

Looks like you'll be able to use your cell phone in TTC subway stations in less than 2 years.

Broadcast Australia PTY LTD will be paying the TTC $25 million over 20 years to put service in 61 subway stations.

While the stations will have phone service there won't be any between stations if they're too far apart.

Now it will be easier to avoid eye contact on the subway You excited?

Not exactly a bad thing to not have cell service on the actual subway ride. I'd hate to hear some of the extra loud cell talkers on a daily basis.

Hong Kong had theirs since 1993. New York started rolling out service last year. London started theirs this year.

I can't remember the last time I was on a peaceful subway ride. People don't need cell phones to be loud and annoying....

However I am looking forward to data service on my entire commute end-to-end. It's a pain to try and load up a bunch of tabs on Opera browser before I lose service.

Most of my subway rides are pretty peaceful to be quite honest. I agree cell phones don't exactly equal loud and annoying, but for now it definitely helps keep the noise down.

Actually the fact that the TTC has been so long-in-the-tooth to allow this (I think globally the TTC maybe the very LAST to offer cellphone services and not continually block them) is a good thing for the following reasons:

Accidents/suicides ... people on bloor constantly get pushed over (last year some 14yr old visiting our country assisted an old lady where many of his peers much younger than the lady just stood and watched! I'd be ashamed if I wasn't in the tunnel helping her along with him. He didn't even think! We've become a nation conditioned to build our personal space like our yards; fenced in to keep harm and awareness of others issues OUT.)

Women being sexually assaulted - 4mths ago a perp was profiled on the subway screens.

Men getting into fights affecting riders when super drunk
      - time to just have a joint and be happy lazy and hungry.

many school kids riding the subway in Gr9 for the first time need to feel safe. sometimes a quick call to check directions is helpful.

pressing the emergency bar for smaller issues like directions is NOT what its designed for and slows rush-hour traffic by 30mins in any direction.

Being able to call work when the TTC has "minor" delays that are MAJOR to you keeping a contract or full-time job! At least NOW your boss will hear those lame annoucements that are garbled in real time! TTC does NOT post all rider occurances on their site and dont trust CityTV to either - I think their paid off.

So many more things why the mayor and TTC should get KICKED for waiting this long!
