• HTC DROID DNA 6435LVW Pre-Release Thread

Verizon and HTC just announced the DROID DNA. The DNA has a 5" 1920x1080 display with a pixel density of 440 PPI. The retina display on the iPhone and other high definition phone displays hovers around 320PPI.

It will have Qualcomm's Quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with support for LTE. Other specs include a 8MP camera with a f/2.0 lens and a front-facing f/2.1 camera - better take down all your embarrassing posters! The headphone jack has a 2.55volt amplifier, I have no idea what kind of power other phones give you. It also comes with Android 4.1 Jellybean.

I'm extremely disappointed that the DNA appears to only have 16GB of NON EXPANDABLE storage. If this is the case the DNA will only have around 11GB of storage available. I'm also annoyed that it's only available with a 2020mAh battery. Quad-core + a 5" display with a 2020mAh battery is a recipe for disaster.

What is it with HTC and small amounts of non-expandable storage? Is it some scheme from carriers to put HTC out of business?

DROID DNA BY HTC INTRODUCED AS THE ULTIMATE SMARTPHONE —AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY FROM VERIZON WIRELESS

The first full HD 1080p display with the highest pixel density of any smartphone also features the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE
and HTC Sense 4+ with Android Jelly Bean

BELLEVUE, WA — Nov. 13, 2012 — HTC Corporation, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, and Verizon Wireless today announced the exclusive DROID DNA by HTC, the ultimate smartphone and the first with a full HD 1080p display. The DROID DNA by HTC will be available exclusively through Verizon Wireless through pre-order starting today and at retail stores nationwide Wednesday, November 21st.

“It’s no secret that people depend on their smartphones more and more every day which rightfully raises expectations for performance, speed, and design. The DROID DNA by HTC embodies a smartphone that pushes the envelope in all of these areas with the first true 1080p HD display, latest quad-core processor, and Verizon’s 4G LTE network, all wrapped in a beautifully crafted design,” said Jason Mackenzie, president, HTC Corporation. “The DROID DNA by HTC is sure to top wish lists this holiday season.”

    The Ultimate Smartphone
With technology rivaling the latest HD TV’s, the DROID DNA by HTC is the first smartphone to feature a true 1080p HD super LCD 3 display with Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2 protection. It boasts an extraordinary 440 pixels per inch (PPI) on a 5-inch screen for unprecedented in-hand HD experiences that delivers the maximum pixel clarity available on a smartphone.

Designed to accentuate the incredible display, the deep black, soft-touch back is understated, with the exception of a metallic red camera bezel, while the red microgrill pattern of the sidewalls hint at the phone’s DROID heritage and the power inside. The beautifully crafted smartphone feels thinner than other devices of a similar size as the edges of the curved back taper to a mere 4mm for a comfortable feel in the hand or pocket.

The Qualcomm® Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, featuring a quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU and high-performance GPU, paired with America’s largest 4G LTE network from Verizon Wireless and a full 2G of RAM enable the seamless use of multiple apps simultaneously. With HTC Sense® 4+ and Android™ 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean), you get great software experiences including Google Now. HTC Sense 4+ offers a wealth of easy-to-use and customizable features bringing highly sought after personalization to your phone and placing the most important content front and center. A series of intelligent features powered by HTC Sense 4+ also provides a number of improvements to the camera.

    Amazing Camera
The DROID DNA by HTC has a world-class camera that delivers fast image capture, great images even in low-light and an easy interface to capture stills and video. With an 8-megapixel f/2.0 28mm wide-angle lens, 5-level automatic flash, backside illuminated sensor (BSI), and superfast autofocus, you’ll capture amazing moments without the worry of missing a single one. Instead of choosing between photos and video, HTC VideoPic™ allows you to capture video and still images at the same time. And by simply holding the shutter button, Continuous Shooting takes multiple photos at up to four frames per second to catch all the action.

It also includes a new best-in-class 2.1-megapixel, f/2.0, 88-degree, ultra-wide angle, front-facing camera that allows more to be captured in self-portraits, and up to four people for group shots. Auto Portrait makes it easier to take photos of yourself and your friends with automatic face detection and a countdown timer so you can focus on your pose and not the shutter button. Capable of capturing 1080p HD video, the front-facing camera also provides a sharper picture during video chat.

    Authentic Sound
The DROID DNA by HTC has a unique, 2.55-volt, built-in headset amplifier and dedicated amp for the external rear-speaker to help boost the audio signal to deliver crystal clear sound with less distortion, even at maximum volume. The combination of amplified hardware and the rich, authentic, studio-quality sound of Beats Audio™ allows music to be heard the way the artist intended, and enhances the sound quality while playing games or watching video.

    Additional Features
The DROID DNA by HTC is equipped with a 2,020 mAh battery and power saving software that enables long-lasting endurance. In addition, the embedded wireless charging makes it easy and convenient to top off power throughout the day or fully charge overnight, simply by setting the phone down. Finally, with near field communication (NFC), you can use the DROID DNA by HTC to share music and videos, add someone to your social networks, or download apps by tapping other NFC-enabled devices.

    Availability:
The DROID DNA by HTC will be available exclusively from Verizon Wireless through a pre-order starting today at www.verizonwireless.com/droiddna, and in-stores nationwide beginning Wednesday, November 21st for $199.99 with a two-year customer agreement.

Between this and the GSIII and the Razr HD it seems some high end phones are on the radar.

Not opposed to a big HTC device, but I think I may have fallen in love with the Nexus series and the openness and customizability.

I may very well wait and see if we see the next Nexus on VZW.

The Dev SGSIII I think could be as successful as the current Nexus with many looking to preserve their unlimited though. Not to mention Samsung should be free to release proprietary binaries for it LONG before they could get the full on VZW approved TouchWiz stuffs out. That thing could prove to be almost as nice as having a Nexus in these regards if Samsung handles it right. We'll see.

Such things seemingly haven't happened with the Rezound which in unlockable, so it's tough to say. Samsung does up and send devices to devs for free though, so you never know.

I personally want a 5" HD physical Qwerty device. I would drop the GNex in a heartbeat for such a device even if the thing was locked up with limited dev support. I'm so doubtful that will happen though that I am preparing to keep the GNex for a long time. Atleast until there are several A15 devices out. A Nokia PureView device running Windows Phone 8 could be interesting also. The lack of camera innovation is kinda a bummer. They are all good now, but would be cool if something more extreme in sensor size existed on an Android device. I am a huge minority in my acceptance of a massively thick device to enable such things though.

Finally this thread has appeared. I would want a 5" screen, so I am waiting for either this phone or the Note 2 if Verizon gets it.

Hah. I just created it since there was a more specific leak finally. All we had before was some blanket leak of a slew of random VZW devices they may or may not all see the light of day.

This is a phone to be released before the next IPhone?

Hard to say with VZW. Apple seems to have devices ready and approved with all the launch networks LONG before any official word or timeframe for the device gets a firm leak. This device will probably more or less show up when HTC finally convinces VZW it should be released. Apple has more control of such thing than HTC will have essentially. Still clueless how Samsung pulled off what they did with the SIII, but it was still not as smooth and controlled down to the day as the iPhone4S that launched on a similar line-up of networks all at once.

Yeah I'm curious on this device... I currently have an Inc2, and am stuck between waiting to see what this thing is, or getting an Inc4g plus N7 tablet...

      any suggestions?

Maybe it's release date is intended to not compete with the IPhone?

Possible first leaked pictures? Looks pretty nice if you don't HAVE to have Phablet and something almost SIII sized will work. Display looks a good bit closer to the edge than even SIII maybe. Seems we have a bezel minimization trend now.

      http://www.droid-life.com/2012/09/01...080p-5-device/

DL is speculating this isn't it, but never know what might have came of onscreen buttons from some early test builds and hardware. Posting this here cause it looks too thin compared to size to be a smallish device(unless it's like 7mm which is unlikely).

      'Run silent, run deep.'
These DL pics are just too speculative to be useful, I think.
Whatever the HTC DLX turns out to be, it's just not making any noise at all.

      Presumably the "L" means LTE.

Such crumbs and orts as drop our way seem consistent at 5". Not a tablet at that size -- nor much of a "monster" either, anymore. Still seems odd to me that there's a 5" full HD display for sale that the maker isn't using first in it's own device.

Here are more supposed details. 1.5gb of ram? Not sure why you do that? HTC has done odd middle amounts before though.

Hmmmm... Supposed leaked press renders. If this is an accurate representation of the bezel, this is the REAL edge to edge display and it's happening in a more proper larger screened device rather than something targeting iPhone 5 with a bit more screen, but not really because of onscreen buttons.

Yes we will. If you go back to the source of this it's not authentic. Created by some flicker sort as a concept.
