• Multi Window support coming to the Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just got word that multi-view support is coming to the Samsung Galaxy Note II. This feature was previously found on international versions but left off the North American one for some reason. The latest Note 2 Jellybean 4.1.2 adds this feature so you can run 2 apps simultaneously split-screen. It's a great feature, you can pull up an email for an address, open up a second window with Maps to find it and then reply to the email all while having both on the same screen.

To access multi-view you press and hold the back button. After a moment a customizable tool bar pops up with links to your favorite apps. Tap one to open it in a second window. You can resize the windows by tapping and holding the divider between.

It's a really great feature that's the perfect use of the Note II's 3100mAh battery, large screen and multiple cores. Further, going forward, any other phone with a big screen really has to have this feature to be taken seriously. After all, what else are you going to do with the extra screen space?

I take the same meh, tell me when it's here attitude. If you look at Samsung Mobile Canada Facebook and Twitter pages they're riddled with people complaining about being the last to see this update. I see this press release as nothing but another smoke screen to take the negative heat off them . No date posted on the Facebook page just as you said "Multiview update is almost here". Give me a break. November (not December) it was coming soon. Mobilesyrup post said next week dependant on carrier. We'll see.

Seems like updates are coming a bit faster than they used to, but just I flashed the N7105 DLL1 ROM a few weeks ago, then the DLL7 more recently, with modified Canadian CSC files and build.prop.

Yeah like I said earlier that post on facebook and press release was just a smoke screen. The update isnt ready. My guess is multiview doesnt play nice with one of our carriers bloatware.

The toolkit on XDA says it would backup data and apps.
One of the reasons I did not root because it be time consuming at best, to recover my data.

      Yes finally got it too.
After all that waiting seems kind of anti-climatic.

Can not see me using multi-window support too often.

Had visions of browsing chrome, seeing an interesting bit of text, opening a email to send it to somebody.
or have the photo album open copying a picture to a document.
      etc....

But I have not played too much.
Maybe I can share data between to open windows?

Playing a video while doing something, was possible with 4.1.1

Just installed the update as well. I think the multi-window feature was oversold. It's not that great. Also I find that my phone is now hesitating and stalling sometimes where as under 4.1.1 everything was smooth and flowing. Menus were quick and snappy, applications opened at good speed. This foolishness has made the phone choppy.

In hindsight, I would have chosen to ignore this update.
