Clearwire announced a new pay-as-you-go brand for its 4G wireless service on Monday.

The new brand is targeting 18 to 24 year olds who are recently out of college, urban, and looking to stay connected. The service will not require a contract and customers can sign up for unlimited data usage for just $5 per day, $20 per week or $50 a month.

Customers can choose from two products the Rover Puck, which offers Wi-Fi connectivity for up to eight users over the 4G wireless connection or the Rover Stick, a data stick that provides 4G access to a laptop.

The Rover Puck will offer download speeds of 3Mbps to 6Mbps. The Puck is available for $150. And the Rover Stick is $100 and will work on MacBooks using Mac OS X and netbooks and laptops using Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. It also offers the same download of speeds of between 3Mbps and 6Mbps.

Holy GROBSNOCKLER! It's almost here...the age of entirely portable mobile internet access. I mean...it's here in a technical sense I suppose but what...another few years and it should be common as toast perhaps?

hmmm.... This is targeted towards me. seems awesome with it being a no contract deal but I guess the trade off is the $50 monthly charge which seems to be the best deal. How reliable is this going to be? It seemed when Clear was introduced it was the greatest thing ever but I've met LOTS of unsatisfied customers.

That $50 monthly charge is not any deal at all for me.. What is a great deal is the ability to tether off my cell phone for FREE, and knowing that if my cell phone has a signal, i have internet access to my pc, whether its gprs or edge or even 3G, i have internet access and its part of my data plan with NO extra charges.

Until they find out you're tethering without an added data plan. Then you don't have to worry about a bill, a contract...or any service either.

well let me educate you on something..
they cannot SEE a "tethered" connection..!! If they cannot see that tethered connection, they cannot "legally" shut your svc down on a contracted plan...

NOW, with that being said, on a pre-paid svc plan, the same rule applies, they cannot see that tethered connection, nothing changes other than the fact that your on a pre-paid plan and if they see HUGE amounts of data consumption, they will ASSUME that you are tethering and at that time they can and will suspend your svc with no questions asked. Then at that time you are SOL... And going back to that comment, they sold you unlimited data which means you have the right to use up as much data as you please, but if they shut you down, then they are falsely advertising unlimited data... but its pre-paid so you really cant do anything about it but deal with it.

On a contracted plan, they cannot legally shut your svc down for excessive data consumption when they sold you unlimited...

i had sprint and at$t and both have told me that they cannot see a tethered connection, trust me.. they assume you are tethering cause you asked for that specific plan so they add that in thinking that you WILL tether... They cannot distinguish cell phone data usage vs a tethered usage.

if you need proof just ask and i will show you... you dont have 2 be an *** about it...
