• Today's the Last Day for Freedom Mobile's Fall Data Event

Just a friendly reminder that Freedom Mobile's Fall Data Event ends today, with two promotional plans that you won't find on any other Canadian carrier:

    $40 per month LTE-Ready Plan
    Triple the data!
    6 GB of full-speed data (2 GB + 4 GB bonus)
    Unlimited Canada-wide talk
Unlimited global text, picture and video messaging
World Saver: International calling from 1¢/min to over 200 countries
Call Control (caller ID, missed call alerts, conference calling, call forwarding, call waiting)
    Voicemail+

    $50 per month LTE-Ready Plan
    Save $9/mo (Reg. $59)
    8 GB of full-speed data (6 GB + 2 GB bonus)
Unlimited talk to Canada and the U.S.
Unlimited global text, picture and video messaging
World Saver: International calling from 1¢/min to over 200 countries
Away Network (in Canada and the U.S.)
    1 GB of full-speed data
2400 minutes of talk to Canada and the U.S.
    Unlimited global text
Call Control (caller ID, missed call alerts, conference calling, call forwarding, call waiting)
    Voicemail+

Both plans are listed as available in-store for new activations only, but I have two friends who are existing Freedom customers and were able to get the $50 plan with upgrades to new Samsung phones (a Note 8 and S8+).

I spent the afternoon doing speed tests with them and came away surprised and impressed with Freedom's LTE network. In an area of the GTA bounded by Woodbine Avenue, Highway 7, Kennedy and the 401 I saw ping times of less than 20 ms, download speeds of well over 60 Mbps and upload speeds in excess of 20 Mbps—numbers that bested Koodo's LTE network on a OnePlus 5. As for call quality we only managed to get one test in and results were less impressive; the call was made in a crowded supermarket, though, which may have had an adverse effect.

Bringing your current device to Freedom's LTE network is a bit tricky. You'll need a phone that supports Band 66, but there's a bit more to it than that. While the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus seem to work great, OnePlus 5 users are reporting issues with LTE/3G hand-offs. Your safest bet might be to buy your phone direct from Freedom. For the value and quality of data service it seems to be well worth it!

Promos are intended to attract new business, not massively undercut ARPU.

      But..

      YMMV

I understand that but lately it seems freedom has really been screwing it's loyal costumers. Why would I want to stay if they never give us and deals. Lately I feel like I'm getting screwed lol no promo codes, no LTE unless I switched to a more expensive plan and now this. Watching new custmers pay less for more is kinda a kick in the nuts to me

That's where the problem comes in. The current customer could easily feel like the best option is to move on for better deals. I know I frequently rate shop no matter what carrier I have. Sometimes it does seem like the loyal customers get left out

I did. The first person sent me to loyalty all they would offer was 10 bucks off for 10 months. Thru really didn't offer anything for me to stay.
Not only that but where I work went from full bars to one and sometimes drops completely. I have been complaining for 6 months and everytime I get the same excuse it's under service now it's the we are rolling out LTE How long does it take 1 towet to switch to LTE? It's not like I'm on the outskirts I'm in the middle of Kanata. This and the pathetic offer has really kinda just pissed me off n I think it's time to leave. Kinda tired of hearing ppl all around me getting deals I have been with them for 6 years and not once have I ever been offered anything with them and I have 4 active lines so guess I'll go somewhere else

The first agent we spoke to let us switch an old $40 5gb non-LTE plan for this $40 for 2GB+4gb=6gb weekend bonus plan.

The best strategy is to not enter your number, call and ask them to explain to you the in-market $40 plan, get them to read the marketing points, features, etc... As a prospective customer... Then once they told you about the $40 plan, say you are with Freedom and were planning to leave, but would like them to help "compare" your current plan to the new plan they offer. Then accept to switch.

      YRMV, but good luck.

Thanks but I need the roaming mins and txting. If they can't give me anything as a Loyal customer than screw them I'll go with someone else. Sure they may get a few new customers with this new offer but more ppl by the looks are leaving than they are gaining so they better start offering existing and loyal costumers something or I can see them losing alot of ppl

Just call customer service and ask for loyalty asap. Just ask for the deal and they'll give it to you.

I did all that and said I was leaving and they said ok that's too bad we wish you would stay but we can't offer you these plans cause they aren't in our system only in store. Best we can do is 10 off for 10 months on the 59 plan. Screw Freedom I'm finding the are worse since Shaw has taken over. I will also be cancelling my Sat service with them as well. If they don't want my business so be it

EDIT: After calling in three times and talking to the different reps in loyalty they finally changed my lines to the 59 down to 50 promo. Guess you just have to be a PITA for them to do it lol

I've tried calling in to switch a few times without success.. always politely asking and explaining my situation (2yr customer and looking at the plan that raises what I pay while offering a better value)

Is there some sort of best practices or is it purely luck?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, even via PM if not directly here.

That $50 plan would be perfect, especially if I can buy a code off of someone for the 35% lifetime discount which hopefully is possible..

Thanks in advanced for any tips!

I would try calling the French line and try your luck there, they seem to be much more knowledgeable and easier to work with.

I got my Mom to call in, and the rep that first pick up the phone was able to get her on the plan, but he had to talk to his supervisor twice. I was shocked that she didn't have to talk to loyalty.

She had the $59 plan with the $10 off credit for 12 months, that she just signed up for about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

Just thought I'd through that out there for an FYI!

I hope whoever else tries has the same luck..

That's what I did. I switched to the 50 plan and than applied the 35 pct off code. Bill is now about $30 a month for the original $59 plan. I talked to loyalty 4 times in total before someone there finally did it for me. So just be a pita n keep calling until they give you what you want!

There is a VERY good chance that $10 credit will continue as well. I had a $5 credit continue after adding F&F 35%.
