• iPhone in Canada Readers Collectively Choose Koodo in the 10GB Gold Rush

Oh, it's a gold rush, all right... in this country, a 10GB data bucket has never been so cheap!

In the absence of any other data, here's a poll that iPhone in Canada ran over the weekend, asking its community which carrier, if any, was chosen for a new 10GB $60/month plan. Here are the results, as of 7:30am Eastern Time this morning:

    Koodo Mobile - 21.98% (826 votes)
    Fido - 19.13% (719 votes)
    Rogers - 16.05% (603 votes)
    Telus - 13.97% (525 votes)
    Bell - 11.68% (439 votes)
    Freedom Mobile - 6.6% (248 votes)
    Virgin Mobile - 5.27% (198 votes)

NoneóI live outside Alberta, BC or Ontario - 5.32% (200 votes)
    Total Votes - 3,758

Not an exhaustive data set, to be sure, but it's something at least. And the most heartening thing for me here is that Freedom Mobile didn't score last. Remember, the only reason why Alberta, BC and Ontario are suddenly seeing big data buckets at reasonable rates is because Freedom is finally selling the iPhone on a halfway decent 4G network...

Do I take this opportunity to go legit and get off my MB/SK plan? Would like to see the full terms and conditions of this offer, nothing but "Details in store" on the Koodo website. I expect Fido and Virgin will end up matching by the end of the day.

Port got stuck. It happens. Why would they mention the MB plan? That line is gone. Cancelled the moment you ported out to prepaid. Nothing to worry about.

This plan got launched since yesterday both with Fido & Rogers but the catch is. Itís only 5 gig plan, rest 5 gig is only for 24 months. Besides overage is $7/100 mb which is way more then Mb/Sk plan.
I am not sure if Koodo is the same?.

      Two options.

Option 1: Call in and ask to change plans. If they refuse, explain you know that you can just port out, open a new line and port back in but you'd like to save the effort for Koodo. Ask to be transferred to "customer support" or retentions. That dept can make the change for you.

      Option 2:
      A) Open a new line with the $60 plan and a new number.
      B) Port your old number to Koodo prepaid (need to buy a prepaid SIM)
      C) port this old number on prepaid acct back onto your new $60 plan.

Option 2 is faster but will cost you the price of new SIMs. Option 1 is free but means waiting on hold for hours right now.

Or you could just ask for loyalty.

But pause a moment and consider why RBT + ilk are suddenly feeling.. competitive.

If you live in a Freedom coverage area, consider putting your $60 where it can make a difference, instead of rewarding the bandits.

I was going to get this plan and get rid of my MB plan but when they told me its 20$ for every gig over, I passed ,I don't trust how their system works, I feel I could end up paying a lot more.

Yet they turn it off once you reach your limit so you can decide at that point... look at it this way for 10$ more you are gaining 4 gigs ... thatís way cheaper than paying for overages once you hit your 6gig limit on the MB plan... just donít get fixated on the what ifís but the is
