• Apple investigating iPhone 4S battery life complaints

Apple Engineers are contacting iPhone 4s owners to try and figure out why they are getting awful battery life.

What remains to be seen is if there is an actual issue which can be fixed via software. Perhaps it's just a case of faster processor, more apps but same sized battery as the iPhone 4.

What do you guys think? Will software fix this or do we have to blame the dual core processor and Siri?

Originating from the The Guardian and then picked up by various other blogs.

This thread has some discussion material about the issue.

after a couple of full power cycles, I have been getting the same battery life as my iPhone 4. I do NOT have the option of "raise to talk" turned on in Siri though, as that will constantly be keeping the phone running always checking it's orientation. I also have numoerous often used location services shut off. Additionally, my 3G is not reaching anywhere near the14.4mbps speeds it's supposed to (I get 4 if I'm lucky in my area) so my battery is not being drained nearly as fast as someone with the fast internet speeds would be.

Whats the point of having all these high tech functions but to save up battery you have to shut them all off --Even though your solution is a good fix but it does not justify the problem.

1st off your phone is NOT supposed to hit those speeds… It has the ABILITY to reach those speeds. And you will ONLY get those speeds if you are in a 4G area… If you are NOT in a 4G area, then the most you will see is ~7M on their existing 3G network IF and only IF the tower has been upgraded to 7.2M vs the original design of 3.6M….
Next i have not seen any battery life issue's with my 4S so i am not sure what these people are doing to have complaints about battery life…. Maybe the fact that they ASSUME they are supposed to hit 14.4M and they are browsing all day long waiting for it to see those numbers..?? I don't know..??
Maybe its the fact that its the same size battery as the 4 but now with the hardware upgrades they are seeing battery issues..??
There is ALWAYS going to be issue's with ALL phones… NOTHING IS PERFECT..!! Get over it people and move on.

      Well if AT&T had 4g.....
You, due to your own usage patterns may not have problems with battery life, but obviously plenty of people do. So it's not something to just get over, it's something that Apple needs to address.

Actually the 14.4mbps is NOT for people in 4G areas, 4G varies in speed going up to 42mbps going by various online definitions. 3.5G is up to 14mbps in teh states. Here in Canada 3G has been upgraded to 7.2mbps, whereas 3.5G (or HSPA+ depending on whatever) is actually up to 21mbps in Canda, so no, you do NOT need 4G network to get up to 14.4mbps unless internet speed definitions are slower in teh states or something. 3.5G is more than enough to potentially give the iphone the speed it is supposed to be able to get to. (so if your network has been upgraded to 3.5g, and you're only getting a little more than half the promised speed, you're still potentially able to get what the iphone 4S is capable of delivering)

no, Apple does not need to address anything if they don't want to. They designed the phone to last X amount of time using X features… Thats the way they DESIGNED IT, but if you or others expect more or are going to complain about their design, then u people need to move on to a different phone or change your ways…

Apple is not going to change anything cause its obvious not everyone is having this battery issue… Which means the majority of the people/phones out there are working just fine..

Shortsighted and stupid if Apple has a large number of complaints and they choose to ignore those problems. They did not design the phone to have problems and they will likely wish to determine the cause of the problem. They may decide there is no problem, but Apple isn't as stupid as your comment (implies) and will likely investigate the complaints.

IF the phone is performing to what they claim it does (within tolerance levels), then there is no problem.. IF the phone is NOT performing (way off tolerance levels) to what they claim it can do, then there is a problem and it SHOULD be addressed… That is the bottom line.

If Apple claims you can browse on 3G for 6 straight hours and you get 5+, then there is NO problem with the phone or network but if you are still complaining, then the problem is within YOU the end user…
If you are only getting like 2 hrs of browse time, then there IS a problem and that problem needs to be isolated to the hardware or software of the phone or maybe the network that you are on that can be causing it…

      NICE…!!!

Which is what I said in a nutshell, there are apparently enough complaints of substandard performance that Apple needs to address the issue. That's also apparently what Apple has said they will do, having decided there is a software issue here.

well reality is that there are people out there that will read and understand that the iPhone can only do (example here) 6 hrs of browsing while on 3G, meanwhile they are getting 5+ hrs of 3G browsing (and knowing thats all they will get from the phone cause that is what Apple claims it can do) yet STILL complain about the poor battery life and expect Apple to fix it… Those are the people that need to get over it and move on.. Those are the people that will aways want more and will never be happy..
