Roam Mobility. Finally decent rates for Roaming Canadians!

My bro and I traveled to the US three times last year. We bought T-Mobile sim cards off ebay for our unlocked phones for $5 each, then prepaid $20 and registered for the $3/day unlimited talk, text, and data pay as you go plans. Worked like a charm during our stays.

The funny part is, we had coverage exactly where there is no coverage on that map.

Whats the deal with Maine and West Virginia + Montana, Wyoming, North & South Dakota and Nebraska too?

This coverage map can't be 100% accurate just based on GSM providers here in the US. They don't even have my home state of WI 100% covered...

Who provides the service? T-Mobile + AT&T?

Still seems expensive, there are other prepaid options out there for Canadians depending how long you plan on staying or how often you plan on using... PagePlus, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Verizon prepaid, AT&T prepaid, T-Mobile, Net10, Straight Talk, Tracfone, etc

Maybe I'm missing something here. How is this different from someone just travelling to the US and signing up for T-mobile prepaid service?

I agree with all of the statements about using T-Mobile prepaid. It's what I do. And I call Canada using Google Voice or Skype-to-Go.

However, I can see the benefit in something like this for travelers who want to be able to call back to Canada for free, who aren't necessarily aware of how to use GV/Skype. Although, then, arguably, they might not know how to switch a SIM card. And then they'll just opt to use their Canadian phones and pay the crazy fees.

So... since both the people who know how to use phones to a greater extent and those who don't know how to do anything but the basics seem unlikely to sign up for this... I have to wonder how successful this company will be. It's a really cool idea, though.

From a US perspective it looks like a US T-Mobile MVNO that is marketing it's service to Canadians and charging a good chunk more than they could down here.

I agree that you guys truly have sucky roaming rates--I pay $2.99 and roam in Canada for .20 per minute which seems pretty decent to me. I notice once on Telus's web site it's like $1 a minute--insane!

Seems to me that the ideal situation would be a Canadian company that is both an MVNO of a Canadian carrier, as well as an MVNO of a US carrier, and can then offer a plan with "native rates" in both the US and Canada. You could also keep your own number this way--I bet they'd make some good money. Are there any rules that prevent this?

I've searched their website and can't find the bands they support for "4G", although the "America's Largest 4G Network" slogan fits with T-Mobile.

If that's the case, isn't it a little misleading to advertise "4G" (or even 3G, as HSPA should be) when every subscriber coming from the big 3, except those equipped with a Telus SGS2X or a Galaxy Nexus will be on EDGE only?

What's with selling a SIM card 20$ with no airtime or credit included?

The main advantage over "native" T-Mo prepaid is free calls to Canada. But there are plenty of other ways to do that either free or very cheap, as others have said.

Their single day talk text and 100MB data rate is 15$, when T-Mobile charges 3$ for talk, text and 200MB of data at full speed, then unlimited at EDGE.

Also, iirc, I wouldn't have to buy another T-Mobile SIM if I let my balance expire, just refill and done.

This is not "roaming" and is not even the smartest way to go. You should really delete the blog entry as they are getting undeserved promotion out of something that could be much better

It's not so cheap. If you need to roam for just a day, it's $15 plus $20 for the SIM. In comparison, Public Mobile roaming in the states is 15c/minute and 15c per text. Mobilicity is 20c/minute and 10c per text. And with Public or Mobi you continue to use your regular phone number, so everyone can reach you easily.

Old net10 phones, $15/phone with 300 minutes. Depends which kmart you get it from though...

I hate their ads. All start with FROM $x.xx day. I'll pass thank you.
BTW, dont you getter better deals with AT&T Prepaid in the USA then TMobile? Everytime I go to Wal-Mart in the USA, their cheapest phones are always out of stock. And does K-Mart still exist?

This is for people who really dont know any better.... The average Joe heads to the states and pays the insane roaming rates..

MicroSim or Standard Sim card at $19.99

Anyway to embed dual number (US+Canadian) in just 1 SIM??? So no roaming charge...At least HK/China had done this for years.
