• The Devium Dash: An iPhone-based Replacement For Your Car Stereo

    Yesterday, I came across one of those things on the internet that made me stop and say "self, now that is something you can use." I shared it on Facebook and Twitter and I wanted to share it here and see what you guys think of this product.

    The Devium Dash is an in car radio that will replace your OEM / after market unit. Coming in a double din size it will take up the whole radio cavity. As long as your car supports a double din you're good to go.

    This isn't the first time that there has been a radio designed solely around the iPhone as being it's display, The Oxygen Audio comes to mind. This specific offering caught my eye for it's minimalist design. I'll agree, it may not look good in every vehicle, but i'm sure they'll make different versions if they get the funding and project off the ground.

    The specs of the unit, like the design are also pretty minimalist if you're into car audio:
    * Dashboard app coming, will allow you to have your favourites up front with you.
    * Dash Radio provides access to FM radio in the unit.
    * Dash Safety Collects sensor data to keep you safe, I like how it shows the direction travelling in myself. I tend to get lost, a lot.
    * Phonecall a Landscape phone dialer (although with Bluetooth I'd use Siri.)
    * Car computer input (collect auto metrics like mileage, odometer, sensor temps.)
    * Bluetooth, phone call audio and A2DP when unhooked from Dash.
    * 4x50w
    * 2 Preamp audio outs for amps and subs at 2V (I'd prefer 4v to 6v.)
    * Video pass through for using an external monitor.
    * 4 x 7 inch sizing for installation.
    * the Dash uses class D amplifiers.

    So there you have it. An interesting twist to using your iPhone as your car radio.
    I'm hoping they release a version in matte black to match my dash, and up the preamp's to 4V since i'm asking.

    What do you think?

      Good idea, now if they would only do this for a quality audio product like the Cowon Iaudio line I would be all for it.

      wow, very smart idea.
      @ddooley,
      I'm assuming the radio will have its own built in DAC, as it connects the iPhone via LOD. Now, if the DAC is quality, this has the potential to appeal to the audiofile community bigtime!
