• Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE to be Bell exclusive

    With all Galaxy S III rumors floating around I was a little caught off guard with the announcement of the Galaxy S II HD LTE on Bell. The S II HD LTE is going to be a Bell exclusive. It has a 720p HD Super AMOLED display, dual core 1.5Ghz processor, 16GB of storage, 1GB RAM and of course LTE. It's running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) upgrade coming out later.

    Compared to the HSPA Galaxy Nexus you lose Android 4.0 (for now) but you gain LTE, a 8 mp camera (instead of 5mp), a slightly bigger battery and most importantly you get a microSDHC card slot. While the Nexus' processor is clocked at a lower speed from my testing it has similar performance to the S II HD LTE's 1.5Ghz processor. I'm presuming that it's a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon.

    Compared to the Galaxy S II LTE you gain slightly bigger 720p display and a slightly bigger battery.

    Processor-wise

    Really, it's like a Galaxy Note sans the S-Pen in a smaller package. It's actually a pretty sizeable upgrade from the the S II LTE.

      I think its too little too late for this phone. If it was released before or same time as the galaxy nexus i would get it. But sgs3 is on its way..

      I second that. I was interested in this phone but only a split second. The S3 is a better route to go.

      And what I don't get is why is it coming out with 2.3 instead of ICS out of the box? Looks like a great phone, but with the SGS III coming out soon, it is rather late to the party.

      Snapdragon S3 with an Adreno 220 pushing 720p? We already saw how that worked out with the LTE Galaxy Note at 1280x800, it's stuttery as ****. Why on earth does this device even exist? I mean, it's an upgrade for Telus or Rogers SII models that already can't do smooth non cached animations, but it's clearly a downgrade for the user compared to the Bell i9100M.

      Samsung is so bad with name. How many times do they want to use the word Galaxy. So is "S" the same as Galaxy S and Nexus S? No why not, average guys don't know. Then you have Galaxy S II, S III, then you have subdivision of SII HD, and LTE.

      Hmm.. they should stick with numbers or unique name, not quasi-name with confusing post-fix number, before you know it, you have Galaxy S II Generation III LTE-S Revision II Round 5 Phone.

      Those engineers should go out more often, do they really expect people to call out Galaxy S II HD LTE? Count it, there are 5 identifiers in it, Galaxy, S, II, HD, LTE!!!

      It's actually pretty effective... A lot of ppl ask me if they should get an iPhone or a Galaxy. Not an iPhone or an Android/HTC/LG.

      I'm finding this phone to be quite nice, I have smaller hands and am going to pass on the 4.8 inch SIII... even this at 4.65 inches is pushing it. But over all I'm loving this device, I tried the SII and the Nexus but I think the SII HD LTE is just right...

      I have small hands too. This device seems to satisfy the missing requirement I had for the S2, which was a higher resolution screen. The S3 may be too big for my hands. However, keep in mind that the original Bell S2 has the faster Exynos CPU (but no LTE) when compared to the S2 HD, although it's probably not noticeable in everyday usage.

      Would be great if you and others could share more findings about this device. I wonder if anyone has rooted it yet.

      I've done benchmarks with my S2 and my S2 HD LTE and the HD LTE blows the S2 out of the water in quadrant and antutu... by atleast 150 points, but it all depends too on linpack the S2 wins hands down, I think with the S3 it'll be the same situation as the HTC one X where international versions get the quad core and north america just gets a majorly souped up qualicom S4 dual core, I read that its because exynos does not support LTE as of yet so I could be wrong in the coming months.

      They actually suspect that there WILL be a quad-core of some sort coming to N. America, based on some ads that Rogers ran about the S III, and said that it will be a quad-core phone.

      Ad could have been fake (saw a snapshot of it, as it was removed by that point) or wrong, mind you.

      You mean the Bell SII is different from the Rogers & Telus version?

      yep theres the iSheildz ones which are great... or some cases come with one which are just cheap ones but still decent.

      Thanks for the replies. With SD card and excellent camera, to me this phone is as good or better than the Galaxy Nexus.

      Telus is probably just unhappy with the phone being SIM unlocked and hence coming with no carrier exclusivity, ie. Not a device they can market as entirely their own.
