Hello my name is Ed and I recently opened a resale store in NJ. I basically buy stuff and resell it mostly online. The one item that I always end up having problems with are phones. Most of the time something comes up and the customer wants their money back because they are having problems activating the phone or what have you. Another thing is my store is located in a high immigrant community and I know I am losing out on a great market because I do not know how to activate these phones for them. They all want pre paid or they are always asking if the phones I have for sale use sim card. I am looking for someone maybe interested in helping me by teaching me the ropes. From the bottom to the top and everything in between. I am open to donations for your time, patience, and effort.

Best wishes

Hello everyone, first official post but this forum has been extremely helpful in the past. I've decided to install a repeater in my apartment since my cell provider (T-Mobile USA) won't give me a booster because I live in an apartment building.

I would just use wifi-calling but there is no iPhone support for that yet. Here is my situation, I really care about data more than anything, rarely ever use the phone. I get 3 bars at my window just sitting the phone on the ledge or 1 bar inside the house.

My problem here is I don't have 1000 dollar to drop on a 3 band repeater, being that I'm funding this myself and I can't even find a dual band repeater on AWS 1700-2100 with 1900 PCS support. I've seen some triband repeaters that will work on 800/1900/1700 but they're way off my budget.

If I installed a 1700 AWS signal repeater and ignored the 1900 band would I be ok only amplifying one band and ignoring the other? My area has started the spectrum migration of lte and 4g hspa+ to the AWS band leaving the 1900 for some of the HSPA signals and PCS voice. I can always add another PCS repeater down the road I was just curious if I got the repeater for the AWS band now if it would work fine or somehow confuse the phone with a strong signal and a weak signal.

As you can probably tell by now I'm not exactly an engineer in these sort of things. I have been doing research, thanks again for reading!

Hello folks,

This is not directly related to wireless industry or something. I have a question regarding phone numbers that start with 132 code.

I was just watching HBO documentary on Barack Obama's 2008 election, where he calls up Hillary Clinton to congratulation on some win and leaves a message to call him back on 132-533-108. I am pretty sure of the number (watched 4 times with subtitles to write down the number).

My search skills turned out to be limited with this one. Does anyone have idea what this is? Is it some kind of VIP number?

Thanks

First, I don't use a smartphone, and I am unfamiliar with their use. So please don't overwhelm me with descriptions of how to root, unlock, install a custom ROM or whatever. I don't understand any of that.

However, my son upgraded from his old Motorola Truimph WX435 on Virgin Mobile to an iPhone on VZW, and I'm sure this old WX435 is still good for something. It currently has Android version 2.2.2 which I assume is obsolete.

I'm not interested in using it as a cell phone for voice and text since I already have a dumbphone which meets my needs for that. But I would like to use it to check e-mail, perhaps as a PDA with my Google calendar, listen to Spotify, etc. I can still use this phone where there is wifi although there is no cell service on it. I am around wifi pretty much wherever I go, so don't need to activate it with a carrier. I have in fact downloaded the Google Voice app and used my Google Voice account on this phone to send and receive text messages which is a little bit easier than on my dumbphone. I know that you can make voice calls with VOIP using wifi and GroovIP or something like that, but I've read that the sound quality is poor, and in fact I need my cell phone for voice calls wherever I am, so I'm not trying to use this device for VOIP.

So what are my options? Currently the phone is being used as a paperweight, so if I have to completely reformat it--I'm using PC terminology because that's what I know--so be it. If there's a better OS out there such as Ubuntu Touch or something else, I am willing to learn that, provided it can be downloaded and installed. I tried to find out something about the processor but there's nothing in settings that shows what kind of processor, memory, or storage capacity this thing has. (These smartphones are a lot smarter than I am.) There is a slot for a memory card in the back, so theoretically I could save data to a memory card.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello folks,

I have factory unlocked Motorola Droid Razr XT910 (GSM version of Verizon's XT912), not Maxx variety, that I bought in India. I still have box and all original stuff that it came with. The phone is flawless and no scratches what so ever. I would like to sell this phone and buy Nexus 4.

I have been looking at the websites that buy used electronics.
http://www.usell.com/
http://www.gazelle.com/
http://www.simplysellular.com/
http://www.sellcell.com/
http://glyde.com/
http://buybackworld.com/

All these companies give me a 'quote'. The quote ranges from $79 to $120. This quote is way below than what I expected.
I wonder if anybody has tried to sell their phones to either of the companies. Because what they state on the website is, they give you a quote and then you send in your phone. They will inspect and give you the cash.

The catch here as I see it, you send in your phone for free. They give you a lowball offer. You disagree and then you pay for shipping it back. Hoping that they did not mess your phone somehow. Since my phone is flawless (really no sign of any use because it has been in the cover since the box was opened and has a screen protector on it), I do not want to go through this kind of crap.

I will be glad if anybody could share their experience.

Many thanks.

(P.S. - I am not interested in Craigslist or ebay because I do not have any experience and do not want to interact with scam artists.)

Greetings. First post here, could not find a list of verboten subjects (beyond the Rules page, which says nothing about my subject), so I decided to post anyhow. Apologies if this subject is unacceptable.

I have a Telus contract, $30 for unlimited incoming and $30 for 6Gb of data (a permanent special package until I change it). Right now I tether my iPad 3 to my iPhone 4s via Bluetooth in order to access the 6Gb of data when on the road, but doing so sucks my iPhone’s battery dry pretty quick. An hour of constant usage sees the battery down close to 50%.

Telus now has a deal where you can put your iPad onto your data plan for $10 per month, but my own plan is too old -- they cannot do it without moving me onto a much newer plan for almost twice as much per month (even before the add-on price). Clearly, this does not make financial sense.

Since I am freely able to tether my iPad, it is obvious that Telus has no concern as to what I use *on* my data plan in terms of devices -- they would have disabled tethering otherwise. However, I cannot use the add-on without doubling what I pay per month, and this is just stupid.

I am curious if there was a way of cloning over *only* the data plan connection, so that my iPad could use the cell internet features without draining my iPhone dry. As such, this is not a question about cloning a *cellphone* sim, as I do not need the telephony, text, caller ID or voicemail features. All I need is data. I would be more than willing to pay Telus an extra $10 per month, but they are unwilling to accept my money -- they want an extra $50 a month for the privilege. Which I have absolutely no intention of doing.

Is this possible with the newer v2 sim cards? And yes, I have a spare Telus sim that is doing nothing right now and is not connected to an active account -- it can be wiped if necessary. And as a test, I have put my iPhone SIM into my iPad -- data works just fine as-is, so I know it can work, I just need to know if it is possible.
