I've had Virgin Mobile for years and had no trouble. About 4 days ago I bought the iPhone from them. Everything is working great except I've been receiving blank texts from phone number (999)999-9999. Every day since I activated the iPhone I'll get a string of 10 or more completely blank text messages within about a minute. This happens once or twice a day usually. I blocked the number through their online form and it didn't work. Then I called customer service and they tried to block it on their end, telling me to call back and it didn't work. Well, the problem persisted so I called back today and got connected with someone in their tech department who may or may not have understood my problem. His only suggested solution was that I call the number and tell them to stop texting me.

My guess is that this number is just a mask, so I figure either calling the number results in nothing, or I run the risk of confirming my phone number for some spammers. I'd really like to just have the number blocked, does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I know we have talked about this for a long time and many users posted that only virgin mobile branded iphones would work on VM. I can tell you from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that I bought an unlocked CDMA Iphone 4 and it does work. When you setup the phone it will give you an option for which carrier (verizon, virgin, sprint, etc).

Now when you call VM to swap your phone or activate your new phone it's important to bypass customer service and go straight to tech support. Customer Service will tell you they can't find the MEID number in their system.

You will need to connect the phone to itunes and restore the phone as a new phone then contact tech support who will activate the phone for you. I hope this helps and reminds us to take information on forums at face value a lot of opinions & speculations take it from those who have personal experience.

Hey guys,

1st post.
I think I already know the answer to this question, but I'll ask anyways. Maybe someone has a better idea?

I've been on the VM $15/90-day, minute-to-minute plan for ages. My balance is hovering around $140-$150. VM is increasing the price to $20/90-days and they do not allow the use of smartphones (for WiFi only) on my plan. I want the advantages of having a wifi device & a media player in my pocket without being required to buy a data plan! In this respect, VM has become extremely unattractive compared to T-Mobile and its many MVNOs. I want to jump ship, but I'll never use up my acct balance... not a big talker.

So what are my options for recouping my existing balance without taking too big a hit? I'm assuming asking VM to refund my unused balance is fruitless, correct?

I suppose the obvious answer is to purchase a device with my balance and try selling it on Ebay. But that seems like a really bad idea and a lot of work. I'll take a bath selling the phone given the prices VM charges even for REALLY OLD PHONES like the Galaxy S II. Factor in the shipping & Ebay fees and it gets worse. Plus there's not much demand for locked, CDMA phones. My local Chicago Craig's List listing for VM phones is woefully bad! A few ppl trying to get $15-20 for used feature phones, but that's about it. Basically there's just ZERO market/demand for VM phones in Chicago.

Someone mentioned in this post: (sorry the stupid forum won't let me post a url TO A HOWARD FORUMS forum post!!!)
that it might be possible to transfer the balance from one VM acct to another VM acct. Has anyone attempted this? Is this actually true or is this guy just making theoretical assertions?

Are there any other options? It seems to me the acct-to-acct balance transfer would be the best option. Anyone have any idea how I'd go about FINDING someone to do this with??? I don't know anyone on VM. I thought about placing a C/L ad, but it just sounds like such a SCAM ad, even to ME! And I'm the one writing it!!! LOL!

Assuming I eventually find someone, what kind of % discount would I give the Transferee? Does 20%-25% sound fair? Due to the nature of this type of transaction, I think this would need to take place in-person (ie.. a face-2-face meeting during which we'd call VM C/S together) in order to guarantee payment safety for both parties? Does that sound right or is there another option?

BTW, I don't now if this is allowed but if there's anyone in the Chicagoland area interested in doing a balance transfer, please let me know.

On the final step a error happened but they still took the money out but I didnt get any email or tracking number. After alot of time and alot cases I finally got the phone. So today I went to buy the Victory while it was on sale since I had some cash balance and I figure dont do it online and just call them. lol. So I called them and the same thing happened to them over the phone! I now have a case for this. So I am wondering has anyone else ever had problems buying phones from VM using your cash balance? If there is a problem with it why is it still a option? Thanks

I do not live near a time zone line or anything like that.

I've tried going into Google maps and turning off location features, or turning it on and reporting my location or setting a static location etc. but none of that has made any difference.

Any clue what is causing this? It's only been since the last few days.

edit: it's probably worth mentioning that my clock is not actually changing. The time remains the same.

Ok, I've been eyeballing this Kona/Coast phone since it came out. I like big flip phones meant for old people, what can I say :) Picked one up at Target for $10 today.

Now I had a dilemma: I have a BT plan and this is a PayLo phone. I was gonna call into cust svc and have the account modified as necessary. I decided to try online first and it worked! I thought at some point the system would reject it but it did not. I've been using it all afternoon.

The sad thing is I probably want the $30 PayLo plan as it saves me $5 a month and I wanted more talk minutes than 300. I did this all with a zero balance. My BT plan expires Friday night. Will decide what to do when my month is up. Just thought I'd share this curiosity.

Happy Friday! You all have been so helpful re: my decision about which VM smart phone to get, so am hoping some of you may have some insight into Google talk. Plz forgive me if I get the terminology a bit off.
Since it seems some of you are on a hair trigger on the flame gun, please just let me know if this question would better be asked elsewhere. I am starting here first because of the impressive knowledge base :hehehe:
I have had a Google talk phone number for a while now. When you sign up for one, Google requires you to provide a "paid" phone number, either a landline or cell phone. I would like to ditch my land line but Google wont verify or validate the Google number if the user provides a number from a pre-paid plan.
I might be able to just leave my landline number in the form and go from there but if authentication is ever required I would be screwed.
I would like to use my Google talk phone number exclusively. RIght now Google wont forward calls to/from a pre-paid phone either.
SO my question is - are any of you Google phone experts and have any insights as to whether they will ever let us use pre-paid plans like VM to integrate accounts?
