While I really like WP8 and would probably prefer it, I am leaning towards the Samsung as I can use FoxFi / PDAnet to tether my unlimited data. As far as I know there is no way to leverage the data to tether with WP8 without paying extra.

I will be buying phone outright so either way I will keep UL data. Any other thoughts?

I have been using my old Blackberry Bold 9700 as a backup for the past couple of years since picking up my Samsung GSII.

The BB's primary use was as an iPod-type music player.

It is also unlocked and I kept a PayGo SIM card in it to use for emergencies.

When I travel, I usually move the SIM card from the GSII to the BB and put a local SIM into the Samsung.

The best thing about the BB was the battery life. Even if I played music on it daily, I would only need to charge it once a week or so.

The BB and the GSII both used micro USB connections for docking and charging - saving luggage space.

The system worked well until my BB was stolen last week.

I will probably be upgrading the main phone to the Samsung IV in the next couple of months but the GSII makes a bad music player/backup because the battery life is so poor.

So for now, I am looking at a "new" backup. I have no problem in buying used - in fact I would prefer it.

Things I am looking for:

Long battery life

decent music player

GSM compatible

Micro USB charger/dock

at least 8GB microSD compatible

fairly rugged design

I don't really care about screen resolution and I don't need 4G - I haven't used the phone for data in years. Basically looking for a rugged iPod substitute which can occasionally be used for texts or as a phone.

What recommendations do you have for me? :help:

Tired of beng paying such a high price with Verizon I'm going to try ST. I am looking at two different phones, the SGS3 and the N4. I like the N4 because I know it'll always be up to date, but the SGS3 has some pretty cool features that Samsung added it seems but I'm not sure how long it'll be kept up to date. I currently have a Bionic that has Jelly Bean and the SGS3 is still on ICS.

Anyway, advice please? What would you choose? Why?

Thanks!
