Better phones. Let's start with the obvious advantage first...America Movil is likely going to achieve what Page Plus executives couldn't--and that's secure more modern phone options that won't lead customers to root/hack/jailbreak their phones. As cool as it would be to sweet LTE speeds--a bigger long-term get would be the Android 4.X experience, even if its just through monetization of Verizon's 'dated' 3G bandwidth.

A fresh in-store experience. MetroPCS and Cricket customers have had this for years as no-contract customers, and its long past time for others to replicate it. AM's 'Simple Mobile Solutions' could very well grow and mature to serve the same needs, all with the dignity that contract carrier stores provide.

Expanded presence outside of stores. I've argued for years that PPC needed to have a real big box presence, and AM knows how to do this. Even if Page Plus PAYGO is simply folded into Tracfone (Trac 'green' and Trac 'red'?), the potential is there for even more customers to experience the savings PPC customers have known for years.

Better phones. It bore repeating! Both ZTE and Huawei build new CDMA phones that utilize Android 4.0 and all of its related apps.

Flexible plan options. Going back to the SMS stores, it'd be possible to step up or step down plans based on one's individual needs. No contract PAYGO, monthly buckets of minutes, then unlimited service, all in one neighborhood store.

New offerings like mobile broadband. Why not? Straight Talk has a home phone offering. Again, this would Verizon to further monetize its now-legacy 3G data coverage. And tablet use is just going to get more ubiquitous...it would be easy to see an improved PP brand offer 1-3 GB of mobile data for those times when wi-fi isn't available.

Better phones. It bore repeating again for this speculation: I think we're going to see renewed interest in this space, particularly from device makers. Samsung, Nokia and LG make a lot of devices that could find their way to PPC. Tizen, Firefox, and Bada OSs all have to start somewhere. Specifically, I predict you'll see an entry level Windows Phone end up on PPC or one of the other AM brands.

Cracks back on big contract plans. The big carriers have done well to keep their status as the places to use the best and latest devices on the best networks. But this isn't a bad thing--prepaid/no contract service still serves as a great check against the 'Cadillac' plans VZ&T make their best profits on. No matter what changes to the pricing AM makes with, it'll still be cheaper than contract service--and that matters to little guys like you and me.

All and all, I don't think Page Plus' fate is one that's filled with doom and gloom. Let's face it, it wasn't going to improve or evolve on its own. I'll say it if no one else will: Carlos Slim just saved Page Plus as a viable brand.

Discuss.

My daughter has been using a Palm Pixi for several months on Page Plus now, and the phone has gotten really finicky. I think she is ready to get a little more advanced. She's 13 so we started out easy. I've been searching through and finding different models that work on PP, and I see the droids are pretty popular, and I see the Samsung Fascinate mentioned.

I was just about to do an Ebay purchase of a Droid X2 when I realized it had no front-facing camera (which seems to be an important part of a teenage girl's life :) ) and was only 8GB.

I realize a lot of the phones that work on PP are outdated since we are targeting 3G-only phones, but I'm trying to find the right balance of features in a phone that is compatible on this network.

I was hoping to figure out one that has:

- At least 16GB internal memory and hopefully an SD card slot

- Both front- and rear-facing cameras

- Decent reliability and not having frequent glitches that have to be dealt with.

- Relatively good signal strength to avoid dropped calls. We live kind of in a fringe area and we had trouble making calls from within our house back when we had Droid Incredibles. We had to many times go out on the front porch to try to get enough signal to avoid dropped calls. Would really like a phone that doesn't seem to have a history of weak signal strength.

- Ability to be used on wi-fi only as far as data. She only has a texting/voice plan but uses it often for wi-fi purposes. I assume all these models would be okay for this.

- Ability to be activated on PP right from the start without going through those extra procedures to make it work.

- Ability to still be pretty up-to-date on OS. I'm worried about these older models not being supported any longer as far as updates being released, etc! Are these all going to be left behind in the dust soon?

- Smaller size would be better to fit in pockets of the skinny jeans they like to wear, but I won't let that be a dealbreaker if everything else is acceptable.

- Decent battery life since this is the age of kid that seems to be on the phone texting and using social media very often through the day.

Am I being too fussy?!? I want to get the best value for the money, especially since she will be using her own money she has saved up. I'm willing to take any suggestions. Any brand or models, etc. Not zeroed in on anything particular.

Please sign .
