I just found this out, I had no idea they completely shut down their network! I know ATNI bought their towers and assets back in 2008, with ATNI operating the network and CC continuing to market the service under their name. What did ATNI do with the network, it is it really defunct, or did they just move it all over to roaming service? According to CC's site, service was shut down on December 31st of 2012, at 5 PM. I guess Verizon lost another roaming partner, though CC did recommend them to go to for their current customers.

"CC Communications is discontinuing its Cellular operations by the end of the year. First, I thank each of our Cellular customers for your years of loyal patronage to our company. I also promise you that ending cellular operations will not impact other products and services provided by CC Communications.

There are many competitive and financial disadvantages for a company our size to remain a service provider in the ultra-competitive Cellular industry. It is impossible for CC Communications to provide the level of Cellular service we strive for and feel our customers deserve. Moving forward, CC Communications will focus its resources on the services which have made it strong and have enhanced the quality of life in Churchill County since 1889. We continue to be the best option for high-speed Internet, Landline Telephone, Subscription TV, personal and home security, home automation, video surveillance, a comprehensive set of business services, and other communication and data services.

To help provide for your future Cellular needs, CC Communications is pleased to provide active, postpaid CC Communications Cellular customers an opportunity to participate in a promotional offer from Verizon Wireless. Please see the promotion flier for detailsregarding this special promotion. Following are some additional important details:

The Verizon Wireless promotion is available through December 9, 2012. To take advantage of the promotion, call toll free 1-800-689-7412, visit a special website for CC Comm Cellular subscribers, or visit a Verizon Wireless retail location or authorized retailer.

For your convenience, visit the CC Communications Customer Service Center at 1750 W. Williams Ave., from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. November 14 through November 16 to speak in person with a Verizon Wireless representative.

As always, if you wish additional details or assistance, please visit the CC Communications Customer Service Center, call one of our customer service representatives at 423-0020, or visit our website.

CC Communications no longer will enforce early termination fees on remaining Cellular term agreements.

Switching to Verizon Wireless is not mandatory; CC Communications believes, however, that Verizon Wireless is the best choice for our Cellular customers.

CC Communications will discontinue its Cellular service on December 31, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. Please take the opportunity to switch to another Cellular carrier before that date.

Customers with Cellular service as part of a CC Communications bundle are eligible for special discounts for remaining services in the bundle. Contact CC Communications Customer Service at 423-0020 for details.

Once again, CC Communications has appreciated the opportunity to be your Cellular provider. Ending cellular operations will not impact other products and services provided by CC Communications. We believe Verizon Wireless provides the best option for CC Communications Cellular customers to enjoy superior Cellular service, and we encourage you to take advantage of this special promotion.
Yours sincerely,

http://www.greatfallstribune.com/art...izon-customers
-------------------------------------------------------

A three-year contract that allows calls of Verizon subscribers to roam using AT&T cell towers in Montana will end June 24, a change that may cause a short disruption of service for some Verizon subscribers. However, Verizon will not say how many or which subscribers may be impacted.

The contract was part of the deal brokered when AT&T bought Alltel from Verizon in Montana three years ago. The Montana purchase was part of 79 service areas nationwide that AT&T bought from Verizon. Verizon announced it would buy Alltel in January 2009, but was required by the U.S. Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission to sell some of those markets in areas, including Montana, where competition would be lacking.

AT&T is turning down the code division multiple access, the technology Verizon uses, on its Montana towers, said Suzanne Trantow of AT&T Corporate Communications. AT& T uses global system for mobile communication and universal mobile telecommunications system technologies.

“With the expiration of this agreement, AT&T will re-deploy the spectrum and assets on its towers to improve and enhance its wireless network,” said Trantow.

“Verizon Wireless is nearing completion of its network plan to substantially serve all the conversion areas by the June 24 conversion date,” said Bob Kelley, Verizon spokesman. “A couple of small areas may be converted a few days after the turn down. Our network team has designed a solution to overlay the previous wireless network that ensures minimal customer disruption in conversion markets. We will work directly with the small number of those customers whose service may be disrupted.”

When asked how many Verizon customers will be impacted by a disruption and where in Montana the service disruptions might occur, Kelley said he didn’t have that level of detail.

“But it’s expected to be small isolated locations that may be a few days after the conversion,” he said. “Again, our network team is working diligently to ensure minimal customer disruption.”

A message left for the Federal Communications Commission’s wireless communication bureau about the obligation of wireless carriers when there is a disruption in service was not immediately returned Friday afternoon.
------------------------------------------------

Well now we know the end date for when ATT drops Verizon off its towers. (Only the old Alltel ones. None of the new ones had Verizon roaming.)

This applies to the Dakotas as well. Although their date may be different even though it is still scheduled to end by the end of June here too.

I noticed new towers up on 85 that were Verizon towers in SD. The South Dakota side had slightly improved cell service. North Dakota on 85 still sucked between the ND/SD border and I-94 other than in the cities like Bowman and Belfield. 94 still sucked too across the western half of ND. The towers no doubt are spaced farther apart. And the increase in population there has no doubt shrank the signal coverage.

So SD may see some slight coverage changes on the west side of the state. But it should be more tolerable. Although non-roaming prepaid carriers like Straight Talk seem to have had their coverage shrink in western SD.

Long story short, my wife and I are longtime VZW customers (started with Alltel), we both currently have Droid X2's on a shared minute plan (1200 mins) with NO texting, I am grandfathered in with Unlimited data, she has the $30/mo 2GB plan. Our total bill is ~$135/month, even after a 17% corporate discount, which I've always thought was high (the bill, not the discount).

A couple of things to note, I recently quit my job, and just today got the email from VZW asking me to confirm my employment, which I can not do- so I will soon be losing my 17% discount. Both of our phones are out of contract, and we are happy with them so would have no problem keeping them. We are both interested in the ability to text, but did not want to pay the $10 per line add-on for this privilege to VZW. Even though I have the unlimited data, I don't think I have ever used anywhere close to 2gb - I don't stream movies or TV and I rarely even look at Youtube videos for more than a minute or two. So basically, even though I have the unlimited Data, I never take advantage of it.

I am seriously thinking about switching to Page Plus. We already have phones that will work on their system, and even if we chose their $55/month plan for each of us, we'd save $25 a month now, and even more once the discount gets removed. Besides "less" customer service, what is the downside? We don't have or use 4g/LTE and we're fine with our current phones. We arent' heavy data users.

Just looking for some wisdom from those of you who are more in tune with all of this stuff. Thanks in advance.

Rig.

I received an employer issued phone a few months back. Almost immediately, I was receiving 4-5 calls daily from Hispanic bill collectors. I eventually tired of this and requested a new number from my IT department. On the new number, I have gotten a few text messages meant for the previous owner of the number. I also received several voice mail automatic messages from VZW telling me I own them money.

So my question is how often do carriers recycle numbers? This is in the 215 (Philadelphia) area.

Just curious.

I upgraded two dumbphone lines on a family plan and got two GS4 at the Verizon store. Both phones were activated then switched back to the dumbphones. One of the GS4 was sold to a person on craigslist. Earlier this week, I decided to change the phone to a different color.

The agent at the Verizon store said that since one of the phones were switched to a different line, they would not allow me to exchange it for a different color. He said that I'm allowed only one exchange. I can't do it even if I paid the $35 restocking fee.

Does anyone know if the agent is right? I never heard of this policy. I don't understand why they would not allow an exchange. How does having the other phone activated on a different number qualify as an exchange when it's the same phone? I didn't want to waste my time questioning them so I just thanked him and left politely.

If I buy a new phone on amazon, how do I add insurance and will it start right away? This is with paying full price and amazon having no connection with my verizon wireless account.

So I've finally decided on moving to Verizon's share everything plan for my family and upgrading our current devices with the new contract.

Here's the dilemma: My current service runs out in a week and I'm looking to switch over to Verizon during this time. Here's the thing, we want the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, but since the One may be available late summer, say late July, or early August (here's to hoping...) I can't sign up until that happens. So I talked to a few CSRs about being able to get a temporary phone while we wait for the HTC. Unfortunately, they all said they can't do that and I'd have to pay full price if I wanted to switch phones.

The only thing that comes to mind is that I could get a Basic phone (free), use it till the HTC comes out and then terminate the Basic phone line (with and ETF of approx. $135 and possible tradein value of $25 for the Basic phone) and add another line with the HTC One. The problem with this is that I end up losing at least a $100 bucks for just over a months worth of usage. Plus add the probable $200 price of the HTC One.

I also thought about getting an S4, then selling it on ebay (~$600), but it'd still end up costing me since it would be used and gauging from the price of the HTC on AT&T, a new one could be at least $639 on verizon.

Is there any easy way I can do this without having to pay a few hundred dollars just to switch phones aside from waiting the next 2 months?
