Hello experts - Does anyone know how (using jelly bean) I could use messaging with WIFI only? If not, what app do you suggest?
DETAILS: I have just purchased a SGII w/ my Virgin Mobile cash acct and have no data plan. I have been assured I can use it like a mini-tablet when in range of a wifi signal. Am testing it out at home so I can get used to the Android apps. I did get updated to jelly bean using the Kies app after the Simple Upgrade crashed my WInXP machine and I had to do a system restore
Anyway am playing around and would like to use messaging service to take a picture and msg it. I get system error msgs and checking the setup under wireless I see a msg that setup is not complete. I am assuming that therefore MMS cannot be used unless you have a device activated - at least with the generic Messaging app.
I am a brand n00bie to Android so have mercy on me ;) Also if anyone knows where I can get an explanation of how these default apps/widgets work I would be so grateful.Icant find anything on the VM or Samsung sites. Please PM me if you have a link you can provide. THANKS

Hey there,

I picked up an international N-7100 recently and first of all found that the battery life in 4.1.2 is not nearly as stellar as reported before the update.

That said, yesterday I opened the stock browser and found that it dimmed the screen considerably. I checked the settings but nothing had changed (brightness not in automatic). Oddly, when I closed the browser, it suddenly brightened the screen back to normal the moment that the browser closed (could actually see the browser brighten up before it disappeared).

This has continued and there is no fix for it that I can find. Now using Chrome. Anyone have a similar experience?

Cheers

I tried disabling the demo in settings and closing the app from app manager, but we still have the same security issue. At this point we can either leave the phone plugged in and let it run all night or unplug the phone and just wait for the battery to die. Either option is not ideal.

Anybody have any ideas on how to turn the phone off? (Taking out the battery is not an option because it's attached to a security claw and very time consuming to remove).

Guys, I need some help. I had lovely working S3, but my sd slot was funny, and started to disconnect my sd. So I gave it to repair at my network store. Because of two literally tiny cracks on the screen my warranty is voided, so it would cost me 130 quid to fix it with Samsung tech, my network store offered their technician to fix it for 50. I went for 50. And how stupid. He fixed my sd slot, but whatever he poked, my phone is freezing now every 5-15 minutes. Usually when I use some apps, but it freezes sometimes even with just moving around screens. I stormed back in to the store, left my phone with them to check it. Now technician says it is digitizer. Is it actually possible, that cracks I got more than 7 months ago suddenly stared acting up? Is it possible, that broken digitizer is working and then suddenly freezing whole phone (cant use the buttons either)? They said its my fault, because I dropped the phone, and its now acting up, although it was perfect before. I don't even have more arguments, cos I wouldn't know if it's possible. Any suggestions?

Looking to pick up a Note 2 in the near future and I have some questions about Samsung's plastics and display panels.

In the past, when buying plastic items, color made a difference as to how strong the plastic turned out. If an item was available in both clear and colored plastic, the clear always seemed of poorer quality. Colored plastic always seemed to be less brittle than the clear plastic, and black plastic seemed to be even better than the colored types. With that said, has anyone had any experiences with either the titanium gray or white Samsung plastics having issues regarding the strength of the plastic, or possibly any yellowing issues with the white plastic?

One video I watched referred to the white cased Note 2 as having a larger black border around the screen. I'm guessing the presenter was trying to say that the LCD on the white model was a tiny bit smaller than on his gray version. It also appeared that the white phone's screen was a good amount brighter than the gray phone's screen. This was commented upon. I do realize that surrounding border colors can make screens look different, but I was wondering if anyone with both colors of phones could see if this is in fact the case, or hopefully an optical illusion. I ask, as I know with LCD TV sets, a manufacturer will sometimes use different brands of LCD panels for the exact same model TV. Some panels are great, and some are garbage. It's know as the "LCD Panel Lottery"!

Lastly, the gray version looks like it has some clear coating on top of the gray, while the white version just looks like uncoated white plastic, to me. Is my observation correct?
And as to finger oils, smudges, and scratches, is one color superior to the other, or are they about the same?

Yes, I most likely will put the phone in some sort of case, but I'd still like to know about the strengths and/or weaknesses of the case materials by their color ( I currently have my black iPhone 3GS in an Otterbox Defender, and some sand or grit got in between the case and phone, and left little dents all over the back inside surface of the Otterbox and the phone's back panel). My wife's white iPhone in a similar case got grit inside, and although it dented the Otterbox similarly to mine, her phone was left untouched.
