I currently have an unlimited data plan with Verizon that is attached to my antiquated 3G USB. Super Slow!
I just purchased the Verizon 4G router and it happens to be quite a bit faster.
My challenge is the new router does not have the unlimited plan available.
Has anyone had success with an ESN change so I might make a swap and have the unlimited plan on my newer, faster 4G router.

Thanks

My question but has been "answered," but in quite different ways, from "no" to "well, I did it" or "you never could" to "you can do it now by ...." Some of the VZW rules have changed based on regulatory action, and it appears some changes aren't really discussed openly by VZW or well-appreciated within the company. So, despite researching the subject again, I can't discern the best answer.

I have a very old VZW data plan with unlimited 3G data. Several years ago, I "upgraded" (it was an upgrade back then) without subsidy to a MiFi2200, a 3G device. Because I didn't use a subsidy, I was able to keep the plan. I also have a grandfathered unlimited data plan on which I activated an unsubsidized iPhone 5. The previous phone using that unlimited data plan was a 3G phone. A VZW sales rep told me I could upgrade an unlimited data 3G plan to a 4G LTE plan on a phone but not on a hotspot. I've been told I can use a grandfathered unlimited plan with a 4G LTE device, even a hotspot, but I must first activate a SIM that I then move to the hotspot device. Of course, that means losing unlimited data. The VZW reps have given me a wide range of conflicting, sometimes amusing answers, surmises or guesses. (VZW reps on this site give more informed answers.)

Taking into account the various different methods that worked (if they really did) in the past as well as the changes to the forced changes in VZW's tethering and SIM transfer rules, I wonder what the current answer is to the question of whether I can upgrade the unlimited 3G hotspot to an unsubsidized 4G LTE device? and if so, how?

As it appears now, I have a less-expensive plan for a (practically) unlimited 4G LTE phone I can tether/hotspot with other devices. Alternatively, I can use my more-expensive plan for a (purportedly) unlimited 3G dedicated hotspot.

Thanks in advance!
