Microsoft has signed off on the RTM build of the long awaiting Windows Phone 7 update dubbed "Mango."

The update will provide a host of new features including multitasking and Internet Explorer 9 and will be subject to manufacturer and carrier testing and optimization prior to being released to the public.

Today Sprint announced two phones by Kyocera and a Motorola smartphone that will serve as their first CDMA-based Direct Connect devices and will be available in the Fourth Quarter of this year.

Sprint's new Direct Connect service will serve an area three times larger than their current iDEN direct connect service.

It has been reported that those who have jailbroken devices running iOS 5 beta cannot OTA update to the latest beta just released. They can still update by plugging in and updating through iTunes.

This may be a move by Apple to counter jailbreaking activity, but some believe this is actually a blessing for jailbroken users as unwittingly updating their OS OTA could remove the jailbreak.

For those hoping that Verizon and AT&T could roam off each other's LTE network, a Verizon spokesperson has said that Verizon's LTE devices won't be compatible with their competitors' LTE networks due to frequency differences.

While it's possible that manufacturers could put compatible radios into their devices, there's still the issue of roaming as a "policy."

Virgin Mobile USA has announced that beginning in October that it will start throttling data throughput to 256 kbps or less for users who exceed 2.5 GB of usage before the end of their billing cycle. The data speed will be reset at the beginning of the next billing cycle.

Virgin Mobile USA claims that 97% of its user base will not experience this.
