Sprint will deploy LTE-Advanced in the first half of 2013

CHICAGO--Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) will deploy LTE-Advanced technology on its 800 MHz spectrum by the first half of 2013, a key executive said. Speaking at a breakfast meeting at the 4G World conference here, Sprint's vice president of network development and engineering, Iyad Tarazi, said that the company will deploy LTE-Advanced Release 10 in a 10x10 configuration by the first half of 2013. The company estimates that with LTE-Advanced it will be able to achieve 12-15 Mbps download speeds.

In the days after the iPhone launched on Sprint, a number of customers complained about extremely slow data speeds on Sprint's network. Sprint initially denied that there were any problems, but now a report from TheNextWeb suggests that is a problem with Sprint's iPhone data speeds:

Now it seems that an internal email has been sent to Sprint representatives, informing them that Apple and Sprintare working together on a “confirmed nationwide issue” dealing with the slow data rates many users are experiencing. There was no information about what the cause of the issues are or what the expected resolution date might be.

The email did contain a reference to a ‘Service Settings’ update, which sounds like it could be referring to the carrier settings file that contains access point info for the carriers.

    Here's Sabesh's Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 review:

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is quite possibly the only serious contender to the market leading Apple iPad 2 in this screen-size. Hence, I was excited when Howard asked me if I wanted to review this beautiful Tablet! The Galaxy Tab looks sleek, is slightly thinner and noticeable lighter than the iPad 2. However, it's wider and shorter, making it somewhat awkward to hold in Landscape mode. I got used to holding it after a couple days of moderate usage.

MetroPCS Communications Inc. (PCS) has emerged as the frontrunner to buy assets from AT&T Inc. (T) and T- Mobile USA Inc. as those companies seek to win government approval for their $39 billion merger, according to people familiar with the matter.

Though the size of the deal isn’t yet definite, it would likely include subscribers and wireless spectrum, said the people, who couldn’t be identified because the talks aren’t yet public. The deal’s value is likely to be less than $4 billion, said one person.

AT&T approached smaller rivals including Dallas-based MetroPCS, Leap Wireless International Inc. (LEAP) and Dish Network Corp. (DISH), people familiar with the matter said last month. MetroPCS, with more than $2 billion in cash and short-term investments, has a stronger balance sheet than Leap, though Leap is still in talks with AT&T, the people said.

Well, well, it turns out that the Porsche designed Blackberry may in fact be real. Personally, it's not my cup of tea but as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It first popped up as a wild rumour on Sept 9th but now it appears it may launch on Oct 27th.

What do you think of it?

From the official Windows Phone Blog:

Hello everyone. When we kicked off the global rollout of Windows Phone 7.5, I told you we planned to balance quality with speed. And for three weeks we’ve been watching quality while sending update notices to a growing fraction of phones.

It’s gone well. So today we’re fully opening the spigot —slightly ahead of schedule—and making Mango available to nearly everyone in the current delivery pool (see Where’s My Phone Update? for the details).

In addition, we’re now scheduling Mango updates for LG Optimus 7 phones on Telefonica in Spain.

We’re excited most of our customers now have access to all the new features in Windows Phone 7.5. But we know there’s still work to do.

For example, we're working with Orange in Europe to resolve a couple technical issues that are temporarily preventing us from delivering updates at full throttle to all its Windows Phone customers.

Updates for a few phones are also still undergoing carrier tests. If this applies to you, I want you to know we’ve already prepared to expedite delivery of Windows Phone 7.5 to you once carrier testing is finished.
Anxious for Mango? Get it sooner than expected? Talk about it here.

Right now the world is waiting on Nokia to make a stunning Windows Phone. The HTC Titan impresses, but it seems the Sea Ray will just be a smaller Titan. Nokia needs to make sure that their launch phone blows every other Windows Phone out of the water, not to mention the N8. ...
