My N95 first impressions
 

Althou i have played with the N95 back in sept during nokia open studio, its still exciting to have another chance to see it in person, especially since I get the chance to use it for a few weeks.

The phone came with a battery (BP-5F), charger,1 gb micro-sd with adaptor, stereo headsets and headset adaptor with play/stop/fwd/rewind buttons. One funny thing was it came with a N70 manual and 6680 CD. I ran into a couple of probs when i was turning on the phone. The time to get to the setup screen is notiecably longer than on the n73/n80IE and n93. The softkeys are a little thin, and I have to press them on the left side instead of right below the screen which I do for my other s60 phones. The menu/shortcut keys are too big imo while the talk/hang up keys are too small. The keypad itself is perfectly fine with me, as I have used 3650/7610's keypad without trouble. The menu is the same, but I don't like the fact that I got to press the shortcut key in order to access the 3D menu. I wish it was just an option listed in the menu. The dual sliders are a bit tight comparing to the N80. Nothing wrong with them thou. I was glad that the pop-port is gone and instead there is a 3.5 mm jack. Great job by Nokia on that one.

Camera is good, way way better than the N73/93 for sure. Will put up some sample pics on Saturday for sure. The loadup speed is a bit slow, however, took almost 3 seconds to be able to take a pic after I turned the shutter on.

My biggest curiosity about this phone is the clarity/sharpness and overall quality of the screen. Being 240X320 and a massive 2.6" I imagine it to be not too good quality, I thought the N73 quality was so-so compared to say a Sharp or other mobiles with 2.4" screen and same resolution.
I'm sure you are busy with it and will get swamped with requests so whenever you have a chance, I'm sure lots of people are curious.

I've got a question!!! Would you mind sending your N95 to me! ;) Grats on getting your hands on one. As far as the camera, is there a blueish haze in dark shots? I assume the camera is going to be really noisy in the dark as the sensor is the approx. the same size as the N73's but its got significantly more pixels.

Also, is it faster than the N73 overall?

the screen is larger than the n73 physically, but u are right, it still cannot be compared to the japanese sharp 904/904. However, it's very very bright like the N73, and u will not be disapointed with it.

I have a few questions, if you have time.

- Hows the flash for the camera?

- How good is it at multi-tasking..

- Hows the video quality compared to the N93

- How does it overall feel in the hand and when on the phone? You know does it feel as much as it costs?

no not anymore, and i give nokia kudos for that. It's not there before and after the picture was taken.

sweet N95 is sick, everyone is always talking about razr, krzr, pearl, iphone but they have got nothing on Nokia N95. Have fun with it

I'm gonna ask the question we all want to know - does the browser support youtube videos :)

- The flash is like the flash on the N73. (= still sucks compare to SE's Xenon flash)

- multitasking is not that great for now. Whenever I try to open 2 programs at the same time the other one crashes. Especially GPS.

- Will try video-recording later.

- That's a tough one. For now it just feels like a wider n73 :D

no it does not. Althou the browser speed is much faster than the n93/n80 on wifi.

Well to be honest I wasnt expecting it to but it would have been a nice touch. My N80 used to constantly crash when browsing over wifi due to memory issues, I assume the N95 doesnt have that problem? Do you have the retail version?

I have a few questions! :D

1. How the GPS? I know that to have a "voice prompt" to tell you when to turn left and right is a PREMIUM service that you have to subscribe for, but how is it without that service?

2. Hows the music and hardware it came with, i.e. headphones and whatnot.

4. Can you please post some sample photos in complete darkness using the flash?

3. How the hell do you have this phone already? :silly: im pretty jealous :evil: , lol.

its an app problem, i assume that a future fw update, or the phone will come with a working version when its avaliable to the mass market.

The wifi is way smoother on the n95...and it doesnt have the crashing problem...well at least not so far :D

OK, here is the deal breaker for me: Can you do a power drain on the phone, see how many hours of talk, how many hours of music you get, and how many days it lasts with normal usage?

1. Havent tried that yet.

2. The music is great! Even louder than the n73 imo. Comes with stereo headsets and headset adaptor with play/stop/ff/rwd buttons like i said above. Comes with the moby song.

This scares me a bit and I'm hoping it's due to the fact that your using a proto. I've noticed that many v3's can be quite buggy if you are running a heavy app and an incoming call comes in. A good GPS system should be able to run smoothly while a call comes in and during a conversation.....however it does use a data connection to load maps. :befuddled Does this mean the GPS will become unusable during a call? :befuddled
....only one question from me angel and hopefully you've already found the answer. With fp1 it was reported that you could alter the font sizes. Have you tried this yet and if it does could you post some screenshots of before and after over the weekend or whenever you get a chance. :buddies: Congrats again you lucky..................nice guy :D

......btw....did you get yours before darla? if so your the first one on hofo w/ it!

How's the slide mechanism? Does it feel cheap like the N80's since it's not spring assisted right? Do you have any problems with it sliding open in your pockets or anything?

He mentioned that it was tighter than the N80's....and no it's not spring assisted but that's been known.

i donno, but honestly it does not matter who does not get it first, i talk to darla daily :)

i dont feel how the n80 slide is cheap but anyway the n95's slide is tighter than the n80 (yes i have both phones with me right now).

One thing that i dont like on the phone is after u slide into landscape mode, u wont be able to go back to the default view/mode unless u slide up to show the # pad. Something that nokia should change imo. Might be a proto thing, but i m not sure.

Nice....not that it's a deal breaker but it's nice when you can customize as much as you like with smart phones!

From every video I've seen that's been the case but then again, those were protos as well. Considering you didnt have the E61 long enough to really use the web longterm in landscape, can you compare the 2. I know you've been using the N93 in landscape to browse but Just wondering how this compares to that and the E61. ..guess I had more than one question. :D If you dare post a pic of it connected to your TV, i'm driving to Markham and extracting it from your cold dead hands!!!!!! :evil:

The E61 for sure has the larger screen, but imo the n95's screen is MUCH MUCH brighter than the e61 and n93. I prefer the landscape mode on my n93 imo since it gives u that little communicator feel, i dont know how i am going ot use the n95 on landscape if i m using it with the su-8w since i cant lay the phone on the stand horizontal.

More questions = better, so ask as many as you like.

I will try the su-8w with n95 on tv-out in the next couple of days, and make sure i surf the hofo main site instead of the hofo wap site :D

Few questions on the music quality!!

1) How is the quality through speakers? I know that it is loud if not same as N73. But I am interested the quality of these speakers. How is it compared to N91 or N80ie?

2) Music quality through headset. How is it compared to N91? Is it same or worse? Or is it like N73/N80?
You know that N91 got the top quality sound.
