You have to zoom to be able to read text. I don't know what type of tips you are looking for?Obviously to fit a full size webpage on a 2.2 inch screen everything is going to be small but it's layed out correct and proportionate to the screen size like the iphone. The iphone just has a 3x bigger screen. posted fr. V9

I also happen to be an "old assembly (but I'll say assembler) language programmer" ... and I agree with burntmort, the color is definitely not pink or feminine. It is definitely unique ... just like the original RAZR, something like nobody else has ever made! I've had my V9 for 2 weeks and loving it! (even though I haven't gone the extra mile to start "seem"ing the phone.)

This is america and yes you can have your opinion, just I have counted 78 people on varied sites that didnt buy this phone because of the color. So how many thousands out there feel the same?. if you want to sell to the masses, youve got to appeal to the masses, at&t made a big mistake. Im sure they will milk every color in the book in time just like always. I will wait till then and so will many many others. if you like it, enjoy. From a bussiness standpoint I personally think they blew it.

I haue opera mini installed but just like the Google Maps app. I get the java nag. so I mostly just use the stock opera browser.posted fr. my v9.

opera mini doesnt appear to have a full screen option. anyway, i think i will delete the file to remove the java nag. i dont use any att apps anyway. posted from my V9.

Hey, I didn't mean to insult anyone about the color. I am just saying that I personally don't like the color...in a phone, car, shirt or anything. Since I keep a phone a couple years, I like to buy one that is recently released.

My current RAZR v3 has went crazy so I need to get a new phone sooner than I planned. Just wondering if I could hold out a few weeks if ATT might have another color in the works.

I wouldn't worry about it Tadger, everyone is entitled to express their opinion and their preference. I don't think anyone feels insulted. I didn't like the RAZR2 V9's color at first when I saw the pictures online and in magazines. However, when I lost my old phone in the water and had to get a new one, I went to the store to check them out and got one. So far, all I get is a "wow, that thing is beautiful" from people observing me using it. Needless to say I love the shiny maroon color now.

Can you change the homepage on medianet? do you guys think the full version of opera mobile wil work on our phones? thanks!

What are the benefits of mini vs the one that comes with the phone?

Also, is it better to set the V9 to full-rate? (by disabling half-rate) Anyone noticed a difference?

Well, on the V9 yer gonna get a nag every time with Opera Mini. But it is a better browser as it renders web pages just like you see them on the computer. You even have an arrow which you can use to point and click.

You would have to experience it so see. Opera Mini Beta is the one you want.

I've got opera mini 4 beta 2 installed... Haven't really used it much because of the java nag... I think I will delete the cingular signature file to eliminate the java nag... If I really decide in the future that I miss the cingular apps, I guess I can just re-upload that file back to the phone...

When my LG CU500 died, I looked at the Blackjack and Razr V9. The V9 was gorgeous and solid feeling. However, I ran into a few issues.

The V9 would not get more than 400Kbits/sec Internet data transfer speed whether tethered or not. My CU500 would get up to 500Kbits or so. The Blackjack has gotten over 900Kbits/sec!!!

Playing around with the V9 ran the battery down in less than four hours with only a short call (5 minutes) and some Bluetooth mp3 playing.

Several mp3 music files "crashed" the V9 media player. These were high bitrate variable bitrate files. The phone blanked and the home screen showed up.

My Ipaq hx2795 PocketPC could only tether to the V9 for a couple of minutes, then the connection would drop, and the V9 had to be power-cycled to get bluetooth connectivity back. This is an apparent Bluetooth stack incompatibility.

Even though the V9 is Bluetooth v2.0, I could not multitask the bluetooth. I tried tethering when my bluetooth headset was linked to the V9. The V9 displayed an error message. The Blackjack could do both simultaneously.

The Razr was returned.

OK, I deleted the j2me registry file to remove the java nag... Opera mini 4 beta 2 works without the nag now... It is an excellent browser!!!

I can also confirm that media net, cellular video, and mini golf las vegas all still work...

None of the other built-in java games/apps work... When you try and access, it says "file corrupt: delete?"

Now, comes the tricky decision! When I try to access google maps, it says "file corrupt: delete?"... So, do I delete it? This is the signed version of google maps... I wish I could save it somehow in case I ever decide to put the j2me registry file back... I want google maps on my phone, so I guess if I want the java nag totally gone, I need to delete google maps and re-install...

I just wish I knew how I got a signed version of google maps...

Ah, I like it! Good idea, thanks Baldi... I'm really starting to enjoy this web browsing/3G thing... It's nice that there's an affordable unlimited data plan as well... I switch on "full images", etc since it's free :)

I'm going to enjoy this... OK, so I deleted every single signed app on my phone, including google maps... I redownloaded google maps and indeed, it is no longer signed... I must have just downloaded it when they accidentally put up a signed version??? I don't know...

Anyway, it's nice to delete all those demos off the phone... Makes the phone feel less "branded"...

Now all I need is a new battery cover for the back without the big white AT&T logo :D

I went ahead and bought this phone yesterday. I figured that if I really hate the color, I can return during the 30 day window. Now I am just excited to get the phone!

The colour's not so bad. It's not like it's scarlet. It's a very dark service colour. It'll make blues look kind of purply on the LCD, but I haven't really noticed anything else that bugged me about the colour.

Very close tolerances in the physical build. I think you'll like it.

You can browse and talk simultaneously with a catch ...you can launch the browser while on a call but you can't launch a call when on the browser. (hence "while browsing you can't switch to another app") You have to exit the browser first to access the phone functions.

I noticed this too. I have a constant full 3G signal in my area. Whenever I use MPT to tether with my V9 it says UMTS connection 460 kbps. Is that right that it tethers at the same exact speed everytime, or is the reading just not accurate? I understand that's not very fast at all and it is very annoying trying to browse at that speed. I thought this puppy was supposed to be hsdpa? :befuddled

It is installed, it just has the java nag. I don't have a problem with yhe V9's multitasking capabilities. I was just answering a question for someone that was concerned about it.

I just noticed in your signature you have a Platinum V3xx, how does that compare to your RAZR2 models, in terms of RF performance. Which provides a greater range of adjustment in volume from low to high in the ear piece? There are times when I'm working at a convention and the ambient noise level is quite high. Hearing the caller at those times can be very difficult, therefore I'm seeking a phone that provides the best audible experience while on a call.

Between the V8 & V9 which do you prefer and why? While I'm on AT&T, I truly dislike the color of the V9 they sell, whereas the color of the V8, I find very attractive. I can do with EDGE as I use it now on my BlackBerry's.

I most certainly plan to by either the V8, or if there are enough reasons to go with the V9 then I will simply have to learn to live with the color.

I have read most all the posts regarding what stays and what goes once you delete the J2me Registry file. I thought I've read that you lose CV, some button functions, etc.. If someone could list exactly what you lose if you delete this, I would appreciate it. I use Roadsync to retrieve my exchange email but have to hit OK 6 or 7 times....very annoying. Thx much.

Whenever I try and use the camera it says "Busy, Try again later". Does anyone know what this means or how to fix it. Thanks for the help

I'm using the V9 right now because it's newer to me and my V8 is worn down some. I don't think one is superior to the other. I like the V9 because it has a better looking keypad, faster data/streaming capabilities, access to the music player w/o opening the flip, better phonebook, easier to hold, 2GB external storage, simple ui. I like the v8 because it has external text functions, smartphone like ui, talking phone feat., and a flat keypad for easier texting. Neither versions are my ideal color, the v9 being a little strange and v8 a little bland. Still the most beautifully designed cellphone out right now.

Better phonebook? Hmm. The V8 has a much improved phonebook over the Synergy phones. The tabbed layout of the V8 phonebook makes it much easier to add/view details.
