Got my courage up and did my first SEEM edit to assign the right side external key to Obeymoto.
Works, fine, but I was certainly on pins and needles doing this w/out being able to make a backup first.
Congrats!Quote:

Thanks Technique....I did see that but when I read posts 268-269 or so, it seemed that some buttons where effected and CV didn't work, as well as mobile email..I was just looking for an all encompassing list of what you lose and what you keep.Quote:

In the version that came on the USDM Krzr K1, you could also get signal strength, coverage information, and battery strength.
I categorize all my contacts, for me to have to scroll down a long list or hit menu/view/choose categegory is an annoyance to me. On the V9 I simply hit the # or * button to quickly browse my categories. Much more convenient to me than having to use the filter option in the menu on the v8.Quote:

You mean unbranded or unlocked? You can buy one unlocked, but it'll still be ATT branded.
I guess you'd be able to use it on TMobile when they finally start rolling out their 3G systems. :)

Thank you for the correction. I had no idea.
yeah thats what I meant. Will there be a unbranded version anytime soon?Quote:

Here's a question for you V9 owners out there: when using the music player function/application, are you able to still hear the music of track that you are fast forwarding through or rewinding through? Also, are you able to see the rate at which you're fast forwarding or rewinding through a given track (does it tell you how far along into a track you are as you fast forward or rewind?)?
Thanks.
No and No.Quote:

Basically, everything seems to work fine using the Ross Barkman HSDPA scripts and the WAP.CINGULAR/WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM info on CID 1 or 2.
If I use the USB cable, everything works perfectly. I get really great data rates that indicate the high speed stuff is definitely working, and I can download files all day long.
However, if I use the Bluetooth link, things work okay for a while, but if I try to download a large chunk of data (like a single file as opposed to a web page w/ multiple small files), it hangs up unexpectedly, and I need to remove and reconfigure the entire serial link to get it working again. It almost seems like it's "flooding" the link, if that makese sense.
If I'm on an EDGE network, bluetooth works fine (I've stayed connected, data flowing, for like 8 hours straight on EDGE).
Any thoughts? Any resources I might use to find other people with similar configurations? I tried the search on here but didn't have much luck. Thanks in advance.
Does the V9 being a Bluetooth 2.0 device have anything to do with it ??Quote:

Well, maybe it's not such a mistake. It's easier to tool up initially for one color. Early adopters will buy without that much regard for color. Then they bring out the other colors and everyone else who wants one buys... I'm just saying that they can bring it to market faster by starting with only one color. They might even sell two phones to the same person when they bring out another color that someone who already bought likes better than the original...

It kept forcing me to log in again and again after I had already logged in. I eventually deleted it, since it wasn't really ready for prime time. Opera Mini 3 works well in that situation, so I went back to it. When they get the secure web thing worked out on version 4, it will be much better than version 3.

My connection is so fast that the 100K file isn't enough, and I have to go to the 1MB file... actually, for the first time, even that was too small, and I couldn't get a reading. Last time I tried it, the results were astounding... over a megabit per second. Presumably, tonight it's faster than that in LA, 'cause I can't even get it to run.

My suspicion is that quite simply the fact that the data connection is MUCH faster than the rate Bluetooth can connect at is the source of the problem. Bluetooth is in the neighborhood of USB 1 speeds. 3G is much faster... The fact that you were able to go just fine with EDGE suggests that it's all about the fact that 3G overwhelms Bluetooth, but EDGE doesn't...

In my particular case I'm so eager to buy a RAZR2 that I'm going to purchase an unlocked V8 since I really like that color and I'm on AT&T which as we know only offers the maroon. The fact that the V8 is not 3G does not matter to me as I will only use it for email anyway and that works quite fast on EDGE. I know because my BlackBerrys are EDGE.
In addition from all the research I've done, they say the Linux based UI as used in the V8 is quite superior to the older UI in the V9 series. Then later on, if AT&T offers a better color or selection of colors on the V9 models I will try one of those.
For now I have the newest version (5 days old) of the V3xx Platinum/Chrome and it's a very nice phone with several undocumented rolling improvements over the gray V3xx I purchased when they were first released.
It looks like Motomagx with 3G is very far away, so I'm not sure how many Motorolas in the USDM are going to ever have it.Quote:

If you are into heavily modifying phones, there will be a learning curve. But if you are just using a phone, it will be a virtually seamless move from a V3, V3xx, or K1 to the V9.
It's interesting to hear people talk about Bluetooth connectivity problems with the V9.Quote:

I am not sure Mr Chui would want me to advertise for it. :)
Just got mine after much deliberation over the color. Living with the phone for about 12 hours the color does not bother me. It does look better than in the pictures.
As far as the phone itself....WOW. The build is fantastic and this is such a step up from my old RAZR. Sound quality is great too. Really glad I stepped out with the early adopters.
Anyone know when ATT will support Mobile Backup on this phone?
Thanks a lot for your feedback. I'm probably overly concerned about the color and just need to accept it. I do like the fact that as you mentioned it's ready to go, right out of the box. I'm a tech guy with quite a bit of skill as I have a dual masters from MIT in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, so the only point is I do enjoy development work and the V8 is enticing.Quote:

Finally as you suggested and I concur, I believe that Motomagx with 3G is quite a ways out there at this point.
Thanks again, George....... :)
