Thanks all for the posts. I just got my V9 and have been playing around with it for a couple of days.

After dloading the latest 4.5.4c MPT, I still cannot get the internet connection to work via bluetooth. It gives me 2 choices of connections to try, but fails on both. What am I doing wrong? :befuddled

Now if they would only include the MOTOMAGX software in a new clamshell design (not RAZR inspired), that had a 2.4-2.6" internal screen and a more functional outer touchscreen... i'd be a happy man!

Ensure that --> Connection --> USB Settings --> Default Connection ... is set to "Data Connection" and not "Media Card".

I call it the Motorola Optimum LOL.

Speakerphone does not work when phone i closed. i found the seem edit on http://xlr8.us/hofo/map_p2k05.txt but it says it microphone will not work. any suggestion or is this how its suppose to be. kinda weird.

Im a moto fan, have tried others and always come back. I do get bummed that the good stuff like the z10 never make it to the u.s. I blame the carriers for this. I was so excited about the v9. I had a v8 for a day but thought id wait for the v9. I like many cant get past the color, but know many colors will come in time. Another huge thing is the price. Ive spent some time with the v9 at the at&t store. I liked the krzr and always wished for a bigger version. the v9 is it. however after spending time with the v9, I could swear im on my v3xx. Yes the camera is better and the outer screen, but beyond that it seems the same. Im ok with that, but not for the price. is there somthing im missing that the v9 can do that the v3xx cant for more than twice the price?

It's my opinion that AT&T should have carried both the V9 and the V8.
T-Mobile, in my opinion, has picked up the best version of the Razr2.

I agree baldi, I dont use 3g much, and loved the linux v8, to me it seemed more worth the price as it was all new. I like the synergy ui just fine, but as stated it seems to me to just be a v3xx in a new shell? I would love to see a at&t branded v8.

OK ... what works for me (after making the change I had previously suggested) is to start MPT with the phone not attached to the PC ... then MPT will prompt you for the type of connection. I haven't ever tried BT, I always use USB. I select that and wait for it to ask me to attach the phone. Under those conditions I can get MPT up and running with the V9. (I'm also running Vista Ultimate ... which I could never get to work with MPT until 4.5.4c ... even with my SLVR7 ... irrespective of the V9.)

This might be a crazy question, but if I have the Media MAX package (unlimited data), and I connect my V9 to my laptop with MPT, can I use the internet unlimited for free on my laptop?

What is the $69.99 data plan that I hear about?

Now that I have an AT&T V9 and have had the pleasure of experiencing a friends unlocked V8, I could not agree more.

I'm caving in and purchasing an unlocked V8 if for nothing more than to retain my sanity.....

Sheesh.... I'm so weak.......hooked on mobiles (what me crazy?.... yep).. ;)

I have the $19 unlimited data package, and it appears to work fine (and not rack up extra charges, etc.) when used in tethered mode to my laptop. I have over a GB of data this month, and it's had no impact on my bill.

I believe that at&t does not officially support this use (part of the reason I haven't called them on my 3g/bluetooth issue mentioned several posts back) but it does work, and you are not required to buy the $70 data package like with the data cards.

OK, MediaNET is working, so I have to be in at least a GPRS area. MPT asks me to conncet to the 'Internet Connection' via UMTS then it fails and it asks me to connect to the fall back option (GPRS) - then it fails to connect as well... ARRRGH!

I started digging a bit on the V3xx and found some similar complaints.

Plus, based on Baldilocks' reply to my original post, I started suspecting that I was not getting Bluetooth "2.0" speeds, despite both the v9 and my laptop advertising BT 2.0 support.

I tested this theory with a direct file xfer to the phone where I could watch the speed, and I got 80 KB/s sustained rate (or about 640 kbps), which is much more consistent with the 1 mbps theoretical limit for bluetooth 1.x than the 3 mbps limit for bluetooth 2.0 + EDR.

What gives? Does this thing not really do Bluetooth 2.0 after all? This could be a dealbreaker for me, since the main reason I got the phone is for the 3g support, and the main way I will use the 3g is in tethered mode over bluetooth. Any thoughts?

Australia uses the same WCDMA/UMTS/HPDSA frequences that we use in North America?

Without having to read all 26+ pages here...can somebody tell me, objectively...how loud is the earpiece volume of the Moto V9 compared to a hacked V3 RAZR? I had two V3's that I had modded to boost the earpiece speaker gain...and they were tremendous!! For you long-time Motoheads...can ya'll tell me how the V9 compares? I have heard that the V9 can be hacked, in comparison to the V8 which cannot (at the present time)...but I want to know how the V9 stacks up w/o having to be modded.

I am totally on the fence about getting the V9, and the earpiece volume & the call-quality are real dealbreakers to me...

This is brilliant news as the AU V9 supports P2P video (See What I See) and the seems/firmware from it will be of great help.

Anyone out there find a decent replacement for the AT&T email proggie. One that actually allows you to setup you imap settings?

Alternately has anyone found an app that works with MS exchange including calendering and contact sync support?

I first had bought a V8 which came with MototSync which worked really nice. Sadly the V9 doesn't have it.

Any other suggestions would also be appreciated...

I think that you'd probably like the V9. It is fairly loud and Crystaltalk works very well.

Sometimes people with V3's raise the gain table settings beyond the physical capabilities of the hardware, and Crystaltalk allows you to have a high volume without distortion and without introducing other issues.

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, I have some hearing loss in my "phone ear" due to an injury when I was much younger. So, a loud enough speaker is paramount to me.

The iPhone has had a lot of bad press about the inconsistant earpiece volume...and mine is ok. Not great...just ok. In a less-than-quiet environment, it is definately more difficult to hear.

Maybe the V9 would be better...

V9 has EXCELLENT speakers, both for the earpiece and speakerphone/music playing... I don't think you will be disappointed...

And besides, you have 30 days to try it out for free with AT&T right?

My experience with the V9 is different. I found that the earpiece volume and call clarity was not as good as my V3xx. I believe that the RF was better on the V3xx. I took my V9 back. You have 30 days to decide. If you get one please let us know what you think.
