(2) Does app backup/restore work, specifically with VZNav?
I've heard that it can be hard to remove a pre-loaded Nav.
(3) Does the free MMS hack work (LG Download MMS edit)?

I've read in the unofficial thread that EVDO DUN works.

Thanks very much!

They work on every other LG, so we assume they all work on the enV2 as well.

But isn't DUN an issue in some areas now?

I have an enV2 on order, so I'll see soon enough - this is the first phone I've had to pay for since the E815. :hehehe:

djfrankie 04-30-2008 11:35

what is the best belt clip that will fit the enV2? My phone is waiting at home for me and I would like to get a good belt clip.

velvetfannypack 04-30-2008 12:15

I just picked this up from the Verizon store. I can't stop playing with it.

msmandal 04-30-2008 12:40

Better than my previous 8300. Call quality has been better as well. The phone is built like a tank and all the buttons have a nice feel. My biggest complaints are not being able use the phone (i.e. texting, tools, time) during MP3 playback and lack of auto focus.

djk21108 04-30-2008 13:46

Woot, I'm excited to pick one up mid-summer. Although "maroon" is almost certainly pink. Not cool verizon.

chilepablo 04-30-2008 13:56

Hey Guys, For those who have the phone. Check out your Call Timers for ALL CALLS, DIALED CALLS and LIFETIME CALLS and see if it seems to add up correctly relevant to your useage. After a week of having the phone my ALL CALLS reads 60:08:42, DIALED CALLS reads 59:50.15 and LIFETIME CALLS reads 66:02:03. If I have that correct, that's 66 hours of calls. My minutes useage since before I got the phone is only about 150 minutes. What up? Anyone else having these errors in call timers?

my timers seem to be accurate

Just got my Confermation email, all of my new phones are on the way.

My wife wanted a pink one, but I got her a Black one. I now have to look for a Pink Case for the phone!

Maroon

I don't own the maroon phone, but I have handled it in person and can say with certainty that the color of "maroon" showing up on Verizon's website is NOT the actual maroon color of the phone. For some reason it looks very magenta/hot pink on the site. Looks like they didn't optimize the photo for the web very well. Rest assured that it's a much deeper red than that.

Just my .02

Enable mp3's?

Continuing from old thread, on the subject of playing mp3's:

I tried playing mp3's I had on my card, and couldn't find any way to do it. They didn't show up anywhere. So I went into the secret menu and found the "music setting" menu, but when you try to go into it it just says "mp3 disabled" with no option to "enable". In my old 8300 it was easy!

I haven't tried the "master reset" as someone else had asked. I've never done this and don't know how. Will I lose my contacts?

I just got the Maroon colored enV2, and it is not pink at all. As posted above, it is much darker than Verizon's website is showing.

fluku 04-30-2008 14:44

Are they on display at Verizon Stores??

Hellie 04-30-2008 14:45

Nice to see we now have the option of VZW Deluxe 3.0 added to the already available Sony MusicBox. When did they make that change? I just noticed it this morning!

insult 04-30-2008 14:46

Aweesommee.
I'll probably go to the store and pick one up this weekend ;D

be sure you have your mp3's in the "my_music" folder and not the "my_mp3" folder on your card else you may need to reformat your SD card

Could others please provide feedback on the external screen use for VZNav. I did some quick testing in the store and it seems that the VX9100 will (under certain circumstances) provide some audio/video feedback when the unit is closed. It appeared to offer both voice prompts (which I assume are the same as the VX9900) and simple text based directions (as opposed to the text & graphical images of the VX9900) when using the "route to an address" mode.

For example, on the external screen of the VX9900 it will show you a large arrow and street name to turn left onto. On the VX9100, the external screen just displays "Turn left onto StreetName" in a normal screen text font. So at least the voice prompts will still occur with the unit closed, and at least there is some feedback on the screen (although, I really don't see why they couldn't have coded the display to also show a direction arrow).

All other modes would only show "VZNavigator" on the external display to remind you that the program is still running internally.

Obviously this was a very limited test since I couldn't leave the store (no, they were not selling the unit yet). But if anyone else could chime in with their results that would be appreciated (remember, there is currently a 30 day free trial on VZNav!)

Has anyone else had the problem when you save the picture out of a message it is tiny when you view it?

Although I haven't had a chance to test it in all fringe areas yet, so far I haven't been without a signal yet.

My thoughts so far:

Great price: $129.99/1year, after my employer discount.

Very good call quality.

Outer screen resolution is just OK, the inner screen is great.

Reception is great.

The build quality is good. However, with the exception of the size, I like the build quality on the enV1 better.

Vibrate feature isn't as strong as the original enV.

Picture quality is very good so far, even though there is no flash.

Will post more as I've had a chance to play with it more.....

Please provide some more feedback on the picture quality. In my quick testing I found the lack of autofocus to affect PQ for shots taken at a shorter distance (several feet). I don't know what the actual focal distance is, but most cameras w/o focus control are fixed at 6'-infinity. I also did not see any real picture taking speed improvement compared to the VX9900 (when the autofocus on the VX9900 is turned off - a feature the VX9100 obviously doesn't have).

Also zgirl8, the mp3's can't be in sub-folders - they must be directly in the my_music folder. And no funky characters in the filenames - just use spaces, dashes, underscores, numbers, and letters. And keep them short (under 35 characters or so?).

This is how it is on all Verizon LG phones.

JenJen 04-30-2008 15:10

The maroon is not pink at all...

This one's a little dark but if you go to the first or second page of the Unofficial Release thread there are a few more that I took.

RadYOacTiVe 04-30-2008 15:15

8 minutes on my timer.

I popped in the card from my VX8500 and it loaded the music with no problems. The videos on the card are also there.

Thanks! That did the trick. I moved them all from "my_mp3" to "my_music" and they did show up in the media player! Hoo-ya!

zgirl8 04-30-2008 15:28

Now that the release is official, we need an env2 pic avatar!

mom2cats 04-30-2008 15:31

I picked up two today in store. They didn't have it on display but were happy to sell them to me. I asked if they could match the online price (no mail in rebate) and was told no but then another person said yes. It turns out we got the $99 price anyway through an employee discount.

Does anyone know if I can still do the $50 rebate if I got a discounted price? The store rep said they'd reject it but it was the same person who told me they couldn't match the online price.

The maroon isn't pink.
