TomTom 7 from HTC Diamond on Vogue (And Other HTC Devices)

This is the actual Tomtom 7 ported from the HTC Diamond. Not a Hack or Warez or crack by any means.

You can find the version of tomtom 7 that works with our phones (HTV Vogue and others I believe) here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/12398912...and_6.cab.html
http://www.megaupload.com/it/?d=6EF2ABE2

Now, that said that is the exact version taken off of the Diamond so it is VGA not QVGA. The fonts look a bit large.

The QVGA version can be found here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/7650924/...74/sharing.html
look for the file nameed TomTom_Navigator_7.450.9028_QVGA_without_installat ion.rar".
Just look in the tomtom folder. This was provided by Starbase64 over on XDA.

Installation was very easy. After I had already installed the original TT& Version I copied these files over to the install directory on my phone from the SD card. Replacing the ones that were already there and BAM the QVGA version was up and running. I'm not sure if thats the ideal way to do it its just how I happend to do it as I was waiting for a version that worked on the Vogue so I was one of the first to try it and got the VGA one first. You can likely just install the one without an installer the same way and run it without installing the VGA one first. If that doesnt work though, well you know what to do!

Also check out the custom car icon files he has. What you have to do (took me a little research to figure it out) was where ever you installed your tomtom program. Mine was "\program files\Navigator" Make a folder called "art" and then a subfolder called "cars" Then put the car icon files you want inside that subfolder. When you boot up tomtom you can then change the icon of the direction arrow.

Here's some sites to download different car cursors:

In regards to version 6 maps working I had tomtom 6.03 installed with USA and Canada Maps ver. 6.75. I installed tomtom 7 which uninstalled tomtom 6 and installed 7 overtop.. booted up and my map worked fine. GPS actually connected way quicker then with 6.03. So Yes the tomtom7 that was taken from the diamond does work with version 6 maps but it has to be the latest ver 6 maps,,, ie the 6.75 ones.

I upgraded to the newest version 7 maps as I was planning on doing that anyway. Word to the wise though dont discuss cracked map downloads, keygens or where someone can get them. Anything like that and you'll be banned from here for sure.

(sidenote.... I use a bluetooth external GPS reciever as I am waiting for telus to get of their butts and release their rom update that will activate the internal gps)

The only thing I have noticed so far is that tomtom 7 is aot more smooth and loads up much quicker. That and the fact that you have more customization options. You can change maps yourself and upload them to the tomtom server. Its called Mapshare. A pretty neat idea to update your maps so you dont have to keep buying new ones every year. May be a bad idea for tom tom :P I can see this coming in handy in places where theres tons of construction. I was driving through Orlando florida a month or so back and the highway system there was way, well I shouldnt say way different but on and off ramps werent in the right places due to contstruction. With this you could mark spots on your map as under construction.. or in theory someone else could and when you go to tomtom home and update your maps you can get that information and tomtom will route you accordingly.

Once more... It's been said before and I will say it again. Dont discuss anry warz or anything like that. No hacks or cracks or where to download maps from illegally. If you want a map. Go to tomtom's website!

I should mention this as well. The QVGA version I posted is set to, well I dont remember what language actually...But its not english. There seems to be two ways to get it to english.

The first is simply to delete the file [navigator.cfg] which I'm fairly sure is in whatever directory you are installing tomtom 7 to. That said you can probably just NOT move it over into the directory. Before I discovered that deleting this file would make the english the default I did this.

Here's the method I figured out on my own before that method came about.

Once the map screen has popped up tap the screen once, the bottomn left icon with a wrech is what you then have to press. A new page will pop up. Push the bottom right icon (a blue arrow) 5 times. On the last page you should see an icon with 3 flags.. it will be the top left icon. Press this once. Then you'll have the option of changing the language.

Change it to english or whatever you want it to be and you are set!

This brings up another possible issue I never thought about though untill now. If for whatever reason you cant boot up tomtom because its in some other language and you have to go through a set up in another launguge (I imagine if its the first time loading up it SHOULD give you the option of choosing the language before hand but if it doesnt) maybe install that VGA version and get the set up and what not, everything the way you want it THEN copy of the QVGA files. This may not even be an issue at all but if it should happen to someone its an idea on how to get it done!

Hope this helps!

well i tried to install it, it worked but now its asking me for activation......does that mean i should go to the tom tom site to pay for something or did i not do it right?

tobeychris 06-25-2008 08:27

Did you copy the files to the \Program Files\Navigator folder?

Detailed log of what I've done:

I had:
App version 6.030 (8320)
GPS Driver v1.20
Map: 'USA and Canada 675_1409' v675.1409

I copied the Navigator folder from the TomTom_Navigator_7.450.9028_QVGA_without_installat ion.rar file to \Program Files\ folder on my Touch.

Program will launch.... no maps found! (Is a lot faster though)

Phil_00 06-25-2008 09:48

the instaltion instructions given dont really make sense to me, i just installed the cab, which uninstalled version 6, but olike i said in my last post, it doesnt seem to work it asks me for an activation key..

tobeychris 06-25-2008 11:35

I've managed to get it to work. I had to update my maps to the USA_and_Canada_720.1803 versions (version 7 maps work best with version 7 software!). Everything looks good. I'm going to go test out if it will activate the gps on its own (on a touch that has gps enabled through rom update)

Phil_00 06-25-2008 16:31

where did you get the map file from? I went to the map sexction of tomtom.com and it was down for construction...

Aaron McCarthy 06-26-2008 21:26

Dont discuss where to get maps from in the public forum. You'll get yourself into some trouble!

WhiteSoxxx 06-28-2008 05:22

his map request seemed like a legitimate question. referencing tomtom.com anyways..

also, it looks like your third car cursor link is broken. thanks for the info thus far!

Unfortunately, The version of HTC Touch Cruise that I purchased came with "MapKing", which is useful in the Asia/Pacific region, I suppose, but absolutely useless here in the US.

I was going to return the Touch Cruise to the store where I bought it from because I got it for the GPS more than anything else and if that didn't work it it would have been a huge deal-breaker for me. The worst part was that I was facing a probable and hefty 20% restocking fee if I had to return it.

Fortunately, I ran into this thread. I've tried the QVGA version of TTN7, and it worked like a charm with the touch cruise. I like it so much that I may actually buy the entire map for US/Canada when TTN7 is finally released.

Special thanks to Aaron for the share. :)
